Some of you may recall that my (Davis) solar sensor did some weird stuff earlier in the year, e.g. showing solar radiation over 1700W/m2 all day AND night!
It recovered after a couple of weeks and has worked well since then. That is until Storm Darragh turned up. The sensors and mast/cables took a battering, with a maximum gust registered of 77km/h (which I think is pretty high in a suburban environment). At about 2am yesterday morning solar radiation suddenly peaked and has stayed high since then, although it is still responding a little to sunlight.
I now need to wait for a ‘nice’ day when I can get the mast down, replace the sensor and re-weatherproof the RJ11 junction in the cable.
Luckily this appears to be the only damage we’ve had. I hope you’ve all escaped with little/no damage.
they have gel in them so not only a larger separation between conductors but the gel will help if the box becomes water compromised
Davis used to sell connection units that used these
this is only a suggestion
i spent Saturday afternoon putting extra fixings on my lights plus repair one Christmas Lights enjoy
i had max gust of 47mph at about 2:30pm
I’m not sure whether it’s the RJ11 connector or the sensor itself. If I replace the sensor then I’ll have to remake the connection so whichever it is should be resolved. Taking the mast down isn’t trivial so I don’t really want to have to do it twice for the same fault!
