I have a Lacrosse 2310 that I have used for a couple of years I the wind sensor mounted on my antenna mast the temp sensor mounted on the side of the Ham shack and the rain gauge mounted out in the yard away from the shed…
We now have moved and I’m getting ready to set my station back up and mounting my temp/humidity sensor in a Stevenson screen, I’m going to mount the wind sensor on an antenna mast on the peak of the pole barn and then mount the stevenson screen out front,of the pole barn otherwise i wouldn’t have enough cable the only problem I can see is that part of the day the screen would be shaded is this ok??? other
What other things do I need to know about placement of the Stevenson screen ??
You can extend the cables on the WS23** so placement isn’t a problem.
Have screen in the shade all day if you can, with good air flow all round it (away from buildings). This way you get a more accurate readings as it’s not going to be effected by solar heating or reflected heating, thus it records the ambient temp/hum more accurately.
Check out the CWOP web page for info on setting up and calibrating your station (http://www.cwop.net/).
Also see the ARRL web site (http://www.arrl.org/) for info on grounding your station. The ARRL rag “QST” ran “Lightning: Understand It or Suffer the Consequences” by Larry Scheff, W4QEJ (Feb 20008 & April 2008), also “Obtaining a Good Ground” by Ed Sutton Jr, KD7PEI (Aug 2008), and in the July 2008 Technical Correspondence “Lightning and the Electrical Distribution System” by RD Spann, WA3QZK. We all need to be very well informed on this subject or we will “Suffer the Consequences”. There will be a test. Stuart DW0581
