Solar Sensor

Hello,

I have a question to the solar sensor.

In the evening and in the morning when my VP shows 0 W/mm2 and the maximum radiation for lat/date ist also 0, WD (10.10x) shows 100% solar and WD counts sunshine hours.

Look at this screenshot: http://www.schluchsee.org/weather_display.jpg

Is there a mistake?

There is all O.K. when maximum radiation for lat/date is greater than 0 and its before sunrise or after sunset.

What can I do now?

Sorry for my bad english, but I

I’ve had the same thing here for quite a while. Also causes a BIG spike in the solar graph at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day.

ok, i will have a look see
i think the problem might be arrising because i add a increase at 30 minutes aftersun rise/beforesun set, to boost possibiliyt of sunshine being recorded when the sun is too low in the sky to get to the sensor…but i must have overdone it…
but this is not occuring for my setup////

This used to be a problem for me then, I seem to recall, Brian wrote a fix and it was fine. However I’ve started seeing this again and, although I can’t be 100% certain, I think it may have begun again when we went over to BST.

humm
do you have ticked then to use day light saving in the solar setup?
i have also a new version out where i have made a few tweaks

(temporary location)

Yes I do. I’ll try new version and see what happens this evening.

Thanks

Julian

Good news - new version was OK this evening. I’ll see what happens in the morning and keep a watch on it for the next couple of evenings.

Well just back from being away for the weekend - our anniversary and my daughter’s graduation from law school. In stalled the new IButton Link and low and behold the lightning detector and solar sensor aren’t working. Everything else is so I suspect that they got “zapped” with the DS9097U. It’s dark out now so I’m not heading up on the roof tonight. I’ll check it out tomorrow and update you on how the new version works. As always - THANKS !!

mikey, try disconnecting one or the other, as one might be bringing the other down (i.e the whole microlan) , if its gone bad

Hi Brian

Yep, I’ll try that at “first light” in the morning.

Thanks

Looks like both the lightning detector and solar sensor are zapped. Anyone have any info on a “resonably” price pyranometer that is 1-wire compatible ??

Also any options for other lightning detector ?? Can’t afford the really good lightning detectors.

Thanks in advance.

There’s a good circuit for lightning detectors at http://www.techlib.com/electronics/lightning.html if you’re handy with a soldering iron. My one is described at http://weather-watch.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4187 and works OK.

Julian

if you were to use a labjack, then maybe you could hook it up directly to the circuits in a WS2500 solar sensor?

Eric Vickery now has one-wire PCBs and kits avilable at www.hobby-boards.com

I have the solar kit on the way.

Cheers - Colin.

i sure hope he does a better job at keeping customers happy and delivering the goods compared to buffalo run!!!
can i put that url on the tips/tricks of this forum?

I think he’ll do a great job. The site has been set up in a very informative manner with circuit diagrams etc. Eric is active on the 1-wire mail lists also.
I haven’t recieved my kit yet but I do have the USPS track and trace number, so I know its on its way.

By all means add the url, the more support Eric gets the better - for us 1-wire users anyway 8)

Cheers - Colin.

Good news !!

Ordered a new lightning detector and solar sensor on Mon 5/17 and received them either 5/20 or 5/21 as I didn’t check the mail on 5/20.

Looks like a GREAT sorce for 1-wire PCB, kits or assembled products

A ++++

As a dislaimer, I am no way associated with hobby-boards
