This is only my second or third day trying out Weather Display. I have managed to get some data from my NEXUS weather station to register and display on my computer screen - I am not quite sure how accurate the data is but, none the less, to have ANYTHING is a step forward. However, the displays to right of my screen (for example the outside temperature) look nothing at all like the example screen. My screen shows lines going up, along a bit and then down again in straight lines at right angles to each other - why? Also, am I supposed to keep the computer switched on always? My computer is usually switched off each night (and if I am out for a long period during the day). Will the set-up continue to record correctly when the computer if off - the weather station still records because it is battery driven when the power is down.
A book or pdf file on how to use the equipment would be very handy for a beginner like me.
Hi Michael…can you post a screen shot so we can see what exactly you are having trouble with? As for keeping the PC running 24/7 that’s what I do . Mine is not a dedicated WD PC but still I keep it on. If I’m going to be gone for a long time like on vacation I switch it off and just catch up when I get back. You can see that several days are missing data in some of my reports in May and November which are customary “long trip” months. Nobody lives or dies depending on my data and to me this is a hobby so it’s not “mission critical”. Some folks have WD dedicated PCs which stay on all the time and are not their primary PC. I would dedicate my present PC to WD if I had another one but I WILL NOT suffer the slings and arrows of Vista for a new PC. I do have several other PCs but for various reasons they are not suitable.
I would be delighted to send you a screen shot - if I knew how! My weather station was a 79th birthday present and, although I am familiar with the computer for some software (photoshop for example) I am not by any means a computer wiz. I turn my computer off to save money on electricity because we pay so much here in UK - and in any case I thought I was being “green”.
To make a screenshot bring up the screen you’re having trouble with > press and hold ALT > press “prt scr” on your keyboard > open Word Pad > select Paste > save it. OR if its more than 64kb you can just click on Reply and paste it into your message. Normally this is not done as large pasted screen shots are difficult for dial-up users to download but this may qualify as an exception to that.
I thought I had done it but was told that the attachment is too large (128kb maximum). I have now shrunk it in Photoshop but I fear it may still be too large. Any smaller and it is difficult to see
I think we need someone familiar with that station. I think it should store data while the PC is off, and then download it when the PC starts again. But I don’t know where/how you set the interval at which it stores the data. It needs to be set to store data at 1 minute intervals for the best result with WD.
Can you leave the PC running for a couple of hours and see if the live data is getting through OK?
Aside from the steppy nature of the graphs is the displayed temperature something like the actual temperature at your location?
Thank you all for your help. I THINK the time interval for grabbing data is presently set at 10 minutes but I will change it to one minute. As far as the temperature is concerned it exactly matches the actual outside (and indoor) readings from a traditional thermometer.
I will make the adjustments tomorrow (it is evening here now) and, perhaps post another screen grab after a sensible interval.
The NEXUS weather station does have a mains supply as well as the stand-by battery and I know of (but do not know personally) an existing user in this area. He is called Markie and he operates the Hereford Weather Centre www.hereford-weather.co.uk . It was on his recommendation that I bought the system.
