re-installing Weather-Watch and preserving old data

Hi All,

For what ever reason, Weather Display on my computer has slowed to a snails pace and become very buggy. So I want to do a clean reinstall, but preserve by data and settings.

I found a FAQ(Moving WD to a new/different PC ) on how to move WD to a new computer, but it involves copying a old install of WD over the new install of WD. As WD has become very buggy and unusable I don’t want to overnight my new install with the old buggy install of WD.

So, if I install a new image of WD…what files do I need to copy across, so I preserve my old data and setup info? Is there a FAQ that details this?

James

Read the FAQ again.

the problems are probably in the settings files
so I would think you would want to start by not copying those to the new install
for starters at least

Sorry I can’t see what I have missed in the FAQ

Just that you mentioned old overwriting new, and it’s the other way round.

Suppose you could try a completely fresh instal and then copy your old datafiles, logfiles and webfiles directories over. Not sure if it’ll work, though. (I found a reference here.)

Settings should be in databackup (wdisplay.ini and wdisplayftp.reg), so don’t copy them immediately if you want to try Brian’s suggestion and start from scratch.

Thanks , I’ll give your recommendation a go tomorrow and report back.

Cheers

An Update -

After a long afternoon of trouble shooting, I discovered that the laptop running WD(10 year old Dell D620)was the issue. It appears the the CPU was only running at 20% of its rated capacity. This resulted in WD running at a snails pace.

Since installing WD on a new computer, everything is running 100% Ok.

How did you instal on the new machine, in the end?
