Rain yesterday showing permanently using GW1000

I have noticed that my WD main screen and my website (using clientraw data) is showing permanently 2.0mm rain yesterday but in fact there was no rain yesterday. Looking at the crongw1000 output window it correctly shows rain values for day, week, month and year with the correct values as 0 0.2mm 3.6mm and 173.4mm respectively. So I’m guessing that WD is misinterpreting the weekly value as rain yesterday? Am I correct? Any other users out there seeing similar?

Yes, Brian and I have corresponded on this and he is working on a fix.

Thanks Jim, glad to know. I’ve altered my website and changed the name for now to Rain Past Week

Just to say if you had posted a thread on this then I would have found it as I always search on new stuff before posting and would have followed your thread rather than having a new one.

Stuart

The thread started with another rain topic and morphed along. Here it is: Ambient Rain Year to Date

Jim

I was having the same problem.
I unchecked Use Station Rainfall and
that solved the yesterday rainfall and
rainfall still works.
Tom

Apologies … I think I did not reference that because of the thread title and the Ambient mention.

Stuart

I decided to use the station rain totals because rain did not work correctly without it. It seems to me that if WD can recognise the actual rain as weekly it will work fine using the station totals.

Stuart

Actually now I have read your thread I’m not sure it is the same problem. My rain yesterday issue is that it appears to be using my rain weekly total as rain yesterday. I have only had 0.2mm of rain at the start of the week and none since, crongw1000 is correctly reporting rain weekly as 0.2mm and daily, monthly and annual totals agree with WD but each day this week it has shown 0.2mm as yesterdays rain. The GW1000 does not report rain yesterday, I’m assuming that using the station rain is causing this but it should not since there is no yesterday value reported. If WD wants rain yesterday it is going to have to create the correct value in the code or create a rain weekly value as per the GW1000.

As I said my rain reporting was not working correctly until I set to use station rain totals. I’ll try going back to not using this setting and see how it behaves.

Stuart

the problem is, when using station rain totals, yesterday rain is not provided
the issue is that yesterday rain works for when you have rain
but its not working for when you have no rain
so I need to work on that

but for now
just set
in the wdisplay.ini settings file

[Yesterday rain]
value=

to zero
when WD is not running
then restart WD

Brian I have now tried with that setting off for now to see if my rain behaves correctly as initially it did not. However we have no (or very very little) rain forecast here for quite some time so it may be a while before I can see how it behaves, and I can’t remember exactly what it did wrong #-o Anyway it will be good if you can solve the issue with using the station settings. What I did was to alter my website to call Rain Yesterday Rain past Week as I did not want to have to restart WD every day for a week to remove it since public perception was important.

Stuart

try a new .zip update

Brian I will install it but we need some rain to check it properly, they have forecast some for Sun/Mon but who knows whether we will get it or not. Weekly is now showing zero as we’ve not had any rain since 11th April!

Stuart

just a reminder that you can edit the yesterday rain value easy anyway if needed to via the offsets and initial rain

Brian since we had rain forecast and it actually rained I can now see what is happening. We had 0.3mm rain last night before midnight and 1.0mm rain after midnight. Using the station rain values since Friday all rain values are correct but no Rain Yesterday is shown. Is this what you expected? I assume that using station rain values means rain yesterday will not work. Also the station provides a Rain Event value which is currently 1.3mm but WDs storm rain which I am guessing is the equivalent is showing 0.

Seems to me that the rain values from the station can cause a mismatch with the way WD works so I am wondering what is the best solution? Is it to leave it up to WD to capture and manage the rain data?

Stuart

the station does not provide yesterday rain
i have made a change that should help
are you sure you are using the latest .zip update?

Brian I just checked the size date and time of the weatherdisplay.exe in both my live folder and the zip file (expanded) and they are both the same 30/04/2021 10:27 and 66,334kb in both. So yes I did install the zip file OK.

Stuart

Actually, the latest .zip introduced a new problem. It doesn’t show yesterday and now when you change it to be right, as soon as it reads data it changes back to zero. Both Ambient and Ecowitt.

Edit: Well, my that’s weird. Today, its still zero, but when i set it right, it does not change back to zero. Yesterday it did. We’ve had lots of rain lately, 2.59 inches yesterday. More rain in the first four days of May than in all of April.

Regards

Jim

I can also confirm that if I set yesterday rain in wdisplay.ini to a valid value it gets zeroed by WD immediately.

Stuart

OK, I have duplicated that
but try another .zip update, ready now, and see how that goes

Brian I have installed it today and will see what happens tomorrow morning when yesterday should show up as we had rain today.
