Rain not recorded (WMR-100N)

I’m sure you’re already tired of me and my pitty WMR-100N. But we all got to start somewhere…

This night we finally had some rain for the first time since I got the weather station, that’s about two weeks ago (which is very unusual for Stavanger, Norway). And neither the base or Weather Display recorded any rain. But HomeSeer with RFXcom receiver (reads values from wireless devices, such as Oregon Scientific devices) recorded 3 mm rain.

Have I forgot to do something? Do I have to “pair” (somehow) the base and the rain gauge? Or is it a WD issue?

Is the console showing no rain (i.e. 0.0), or no signal (i.e. —).
I don’t believe that this is a WD issue. If the base missed the event, then with your arrangement (i.e. WMR100 feeding data to WD) WD will inevitably miss it too.

I also have an RFXCOM Receiver. The RFXCOM has much more reliable reception than my WMR200 console. It seems most likely that your problem is with reception of the rain gauge by the console. Again referring to WMR200, I find that reception of the rain gauge by the console is the one most likely to occasionally fail (perhaps because the rain gauge is low down?). In my case that is not a problem, since it is RFXCOM collected data that I feed to WD (via Meteohub[1]).

Perhaps you need to consider repositioning either your rain gauge or the WMR100 console?

[1] How do I setup WD and Meteohub to work together? - Updated February 11th 2009.

The console was showning “no signal” (apparently), i.e. ---- (tried to look it up in the manual, but the manual is very limited). So I started a search (by trying and failing) and poured some wather into the gauge. Now the base updated and WD did too.

I’m guessing you’re right about the perception of the base unit. I’ll try to move the console and see if that helps.

And thank you for the information about Meteohub, if i could use my RFXCOM receiver for both HomeSeer and Meteohub at the same time, it would be absolutely great! I’ll ask the developer.

I was having rain gauge reception problems with WMR200A and found that moving the console only 1.5m solved the reception problem.

I sincerely believe that there are basic design probs from OS as I had a 928 running without any real probs for over 2 years
The 200 seems ‘cheap and nasty’ and took much tweaking and resiting to give reasonable results.

Thank you both for the heads up.

I’ll move the console around and see if it helps. And I need to move the rain gauge sooner or later anyway…

Happy to help.
I don’t use HomeSeer, but I suspect that there is a very strong chance you’ll be able to delivery data from the RFXCOM to both HomeSeer & Meteohub one way or another.
