Radiation Shield - How much does it help ?

Hi,
I would like to ask You by how much can a Radiation Shield help? I mean I’ve got a new Netatmo Weather Station. The sensor is in almost non-rain place, no worries about It, but it gets in direct sunlight in the afternoon. Would the Radiation Shield help? Or by how much would, could it help ?

Thank You for any advice.

If you find the temp/hum sensor is in any direct sunlight then a radiation shield is useful to ensure accurate data.
They keep the heating effect of the sun off the sensors and should allow an even airflow around them. The Davis one I have also has a solar powered fan to stop the air inside the shield from heating up on low/no wind days.

To see if you really need a shield, check the graph or data on a sunny day and see if there’s a noticeable jump in air temp and a drop in humidity when the sun is directly on the sensors. In some cases the jump in air temp could be 10-15 degrees C.

Right now I am waiting for humidity calibration from Netatmo to be more precise. Hopefully It’ll be done soon. Than I will try to find the best spot for the outdoor sensor and see how it goes.
