Program Crashed

Just for my reference, I just rebooted the computer, disabled Norton AV and ran WD at 2:21 PM PDT 8/23. We’ll see how long it runs.

ok, good luck, and hopefully it will be better

i use AVG antivirus, and my email provider checks and deletes viruses before they get to me…

Well I don’t know that it was a fair run. I’ve been screwing around with it alot. I was playing around at the reset time so I did a manual day reset. Just noticed today (11:35 pm) that while the Max temp for the day has changed, the time that it happened hasn’t changed from 12:57 am and WD live is hung on 12:57 am. Here is the error log

Resetting wind/temperature daily value , day: 24
Resetting rain daily value , day: 24
ERROR: Unspecified error at time/date 12:43:46 AM 8/24/2004
ERROR: Unspecified error at time/date 12:51:54 AM 08/24/04

humm, what was being done on the pc at that time?

I was working on trying to make my own custom page so I was working within WD. As I was clicking through setup menus the program launched itself again, coming up saying a version was already running. I thought I had shut down the second version. Seems like that has happened before. Maybe that’s what’s giving me the multiple Watch Dog Icons. No other programs were running other than multiple WD.

but also, though, when wd starts, and you have the watch dog in use, it starts up the watch dog program,.,,,so then you have more than 1 watch dog program running.,.,...i need to find a way to find if a program is already running....
Maybe just do a kill each time the watchdog is started, so it just starts up a fresh copy whether there was one running or not? I use pskill from [http://www.sysinternals.com/](http://www.sysinternals.com/) (they have a lot of cool stuff) in batch files and there are plenty of similar utilities out there so I assume it must be relatively easy to do the same in Delphi.

i have just found and successfully got working a component to terminate a program by its name,…,
still testing

Actually I’m going to turn off Watch Dog, it might be the multiple programs running that is my problem.

i have just got a component working that lists all the processes running and can even terminate a process
so then i will be able to terminate weatherd.exe, by the watchdog, before starting it up again
but, yes, what you describe will cause problems
i dont use the watchdog myself, and yet this is my main work pc too…

10.16c, beta, i now check for programs running, and dont restart them if they are already running (like clientrawrealtimeftp.exe, etc), and there is a new verison of the watchdog.exe, which terminates weatherd.exe before starting it agian
this is a good new thing

Should I uninstall 10.15z or will 10.16c install on top of it? WD-live hung up again late yesterday afternoon. WD was still runiing, no error in WD error log. Reset it about 5:40 PM at 5:50 am still running. WD running without weather watcher on.

It’s been running for about 35 hours now without WD Watchdog, that’s the best run so far. I’m not sure of it’s memory usage. Info page show 536 Mb ram with 142 free. In the task manager WD is the only program running. Is 137 left out of 536 normal for just WD running? I haven’t gone to 10.16c yet. I still don’t know if I should uninstall WD 10.15z and then install 10.16c or if I should just install 10.16c on top of 10.15z? I don’t want to loss my data.

in task manager - although there may be only one “program” running, there are a lot more “processes” running - all using RAM - click on the processes tab in task manager to see the list and how much RAM they use.

on my system I have 10 programs running but 56 processes ! WD is using 56,736Kb of RAM!

It lasted about 37 hours, now it’s down again. Same deal, no error in the log. Program shut its self down. When relaunching program it will come up, get data then shut back down. After first relaunch it won’t go beyond the starting splash screen before going away. I have to reboot windows before the program will run again.

re updating:
just run the installer and install to the same location, but exit weather display first
dont delete any files, and no data will be lost

re memory, yes, use task manager (ctrl alt del)
and then processes
and then you can see the memory use of weather display, can keep an eye on it there
web cam capture by WD uses a big chunk of memory
having the program auto minimise at 3am also clears memory (try minimising and hten watch the memory use (see under help, about)

what was the time of the last crash?
and the programerrorlog.txt (check before you restart wd) had no entries?

Crashed at 9:52 AM. Programerrorlog.txt had no entrys but I was reading it after I relaunched the program. I keep forgetting that it’s a text file in the program folder. I launch the program and go to setup read error log. Why does the error log clear? Seems like it would be a good place to keep a history. I will read the text file in the folder next time. The real reason why I have this up in running is coming up. I’m on the road a lot and would like to checkup on what’s going on from the road. I’m leaving tomorrow for 4 days. I’ll install 10.16 and turn on watch dog and see how long it stays up.

i guess i could have it so that it does not clear at start up

note that i am uploading 10.16g now to fix a bug with the davis VP data extraction at start up not updating the data

Cool, I’ll download 10.16g

i am still uploading it
it will be ready pretty soon though

ready now
