Problem with data recording

People, it seems that when my Monitor is Off/In standby/Screen saver is on. The app does not take the feed from the Unit (WS2310). I have just tested the system with screen saver disabled and the monitor turned off at it’s switch… missing data. This is frustrating as the App records fine with the monitor on… but I don’t really want to leave it on all the time.

WD = 10.37h
PC = XP filly updated
2.5 GB Memory
Anti Virus = AVG

Now ther monitor is back on, it’s recording again…

Grrrrr. Any thoughts welcome.

Check the power saving settings on the PC. Start > Control Panel > Power Options.

Thanks Niko, but already been there. Set to always on in all cases. Tis a strange one.

do you perhaps have hibernate enabled?

No Jim, all switched off. I am keeping it as vanilla as possible.

Matrox Millenium G400 dual head card with latest drivers. Has no problems with 1920 x 1200

I am frustrated.

Windy, any thoughts please?

If nothing else, there is a power switch on the front of the monitor.

Indeed there is. BUT that is the problem. IF the monitor is off, I receive no data from the unit. WD flatlines all the traces.

Is the monitor of the VGA variety or a later HDMI type?..There must be some sort of info getting back to the OS to say that the monitor is in an off condition…most odd

Tis HDMI Capable, but not used I am on standard 15 pin connector.

Monitor is a Dell 24" LCD Widescreen (lucky me!). All screensavers etc disabled.

Have you tried removing the monitor power cable (bit drastic I know) as opposed to switching the monitor off…

Have you tried WL as a test to see if the same thing happens? Hard to believe it would be caused by WD but you never know.

I had problems with my monitors not going to off as set in the power settings and found that if I changed and saved settings then went back to the original to turn them off after 10 minutes they would shut down as expected. I know that isn’t your problem but may be worth a try.

Cable I will try tonight!

WL I have not had the opportunity to look at as yet. I was trying to solve current issues before trying others.

Thanx guys.

There may be some confusion here…WL (WeatherLink) is for Davis Wx Stns… Have you tried the HW(heavyWeather) programme which normally seems to come with the WS2300 series of Wx Stns, to see if that loses connectivity from console to PC at monitor switch-off?

Just to be very clear. The PC isn’t shutting the monitor down, it’s just you turning it off at the power button that stops WD collecting data - right?

One other possibility - IF your Weather Station uses USB to get the data to the computer, and IF the USB cable is plugged into the pass thru on the Dell monitor, then the monitor (according to Dell) must be on for the pass thru to function. If the monitor is off, data cannot pass thru to the computer.

Now that is a very plausible answer to the problem…It will be interesting to hear what the connectivity routing is…

:oops: munrobaggins is absolutely correct. I must have been looking at his profile instead of Kevint’s. Sorry for adding bad info. #-o
