Personal Web Page questions

I have created a “Carter-Lake” style webpage in WD, and modified the file mywebpagetemplate.txt to change things around a bit. Very nice! But I am left with a couple of questions.

  1. When the webpage is created, it makes a file webfiles/moondetail1.gif. Very useful file. However, it is not copied to the ftp server when the files are uploaded. Do I need to do something special to get it to upload?

  2. The generated page includes a reference to “sunicon.jpg” in the left panel. However, this file is not created when the web page is generated. How do I get it created?

  3. There is a small file “conditionscolour.jpg” created by the web page. It shows up fine on the final page, but what is it? I see that the colors reference a range of temperatures, but what do the small lines mean? I can barely see them; at first I thought the file was corrupted:)

Thanks,
Robert Brewington

if you are using the customise internet and file creation setup override (recommended), then you can set the times to create and times to upload
e.g for the moon detail
the sunicon.jpg you should find with the WD install files…and you can manually uploaded that (one time)…same or moonicon.jpg

re Q3, whats the url to your web page?

I don’t think I am using the Customize Internet / File Creation setup, although I have played with it a bit. I would have to override every file here, right? I don’t really understand why I would use this page.

  1. I configure/set up the page with Web Files/Web Page Real Time FTP.

I then use FTP/Internet Setup->Web Page Upload/Generation Times to set the upload to occur every 5 minutes. I don’t know how it decides what to upload; it does not send everything in the webfiles folder.

  1. I will look for the sunicon.jpg file. I take it that this is a static file, does not change over time, doesn’t have particular weather information.

I will force the moondetail1 file to upload using the Customize Internet page. Odd that it doesn’t go with everything else.

  1. Attached is the conditionscolour image which I don’t understand.

conditionscolour.jpg

That conditionscolour image is severely cropped by WD for some reason. Attached is what size it should be.

conditionscolour.jpg

Oh - that makes much more sense! Don’t know why mine is cropped…

Oh, I forgot the url. The page is working internally (using 192.168.x.x address). I am resolving issues with external ip address, but this might work:
brew.my-sky.com/uploads/BrewSkyWeather.htm

Sadly not - a popup window asking for logon username and password appears. :frowning:

  1. OK, the conditionscolour.jpg is weird. Looks like a bug to me:)

On Web Files/Web Page->Gizmo/Conditions Colour Setup, a frame box on the lower left allows specification of the width and height of the image. Oddly, the dimensions specified here do NOT match the resulting image. Mine was set to height 65, resulting in an image of height 18.

Playing around with values, specifying a height of 82 results in a jpg of height 35, matching Martyn’s image. This image shows up nicely.

So, there is an offset of 37 pixels between what is specified and the resulting image. Specifying a value less than 37 gives a zero length file.

  1. Yeah, sometimes I get the security boxes… Still working out the external address stuff:(

Most things uploaded are those ticked on web files setup #1

I will increase the default height of the conditionscolour to 82 in the setup
