PC has new hard drive, how do I move everything across?

New hard drive installed, have original drive as a slave. I have everything in a ‘weather display’ folder. Please tell me there is an easy way to get my station/display going again!! Thanks, I know this must have been covered many time before, but I can’t find it in the forums.

I don’t know about shifting hard drives but THIS FAQ may help.

Nick, can you not just run WD from the slave drive ? Find file WeatherD in the Wdisplay folder in the slave drive ( probably in D drive \ Program Files \ Wdisplay \ WeatherD Double click on WeatherD and weather display should run. Try that first, if that does not work copy the Wdisplay folder to the Program Files folder on the new drive - Probably C:

HMMM. not sure that I would copy to the ‘program files’ folder. WD defaults to C:Wdisplay, and NOT to C:program files/Wdisplay.

I believe that the proper way would be to just copy your old Wdisplay folder to the new C drive. Then download and install a new copy over it. This should set all the info in the registry, as well as keep your old settings and data.

Thanks for your replies gents. I’ve just got back from a few days away so have not done anything on weather display yet. I’m really keen to have all my data history and WD settings if I can. For the moment all I’ve done is download a new ‘trial’ copy of WD…

Ok, making some prgress here. I was unable to make a backup before I had system problems, So I had no folder called “databackup”. So the FAQ did not run in line with what I was looking at.

What I have done is; copy my (old) wdisplay folder into the root dir. In my case E:/ I then downloaded WD from the WD website and installed it into E:/.

It came up ‘registered’ rather than trial!! So something worked! I had to fiddle with the size of the display to get what I wanted (I hope it stays the way I set it?!). I had to change the comm port number. I had to re-enter my ftp settings. All looks good, except:

Because I have changed from C: to E: I’m not sending any new data to my ftp - where/what how do I change the loacl file names to reflact this?

Thanks, Nick

reset the webfiles location and clientraw locations in the webfiles/web page setup

The webfiles location seems to be pointing to the right location E:/

Where do I look for clientraw?

Also, the display has gone back to it’s original, small, size. How do I set the display size and keep it set?

Thnaks

Ok, more progress. Got the ftp working - had a capital letter where lower case should have been! D’oh!

But I’m still stuck on getting the display size right, and then saving the setting so it comes back right after next boot. Any suggestions?

Cheers, Nick

if running vista then make sure to set to run WeatherD.exe as admininistrator

Nope not Vista, XP Pro
