? on first time setup of WD & WDL

First, I’ll say that when I first saw WDL on a web site, I was hooked. That’s a nice piece of work!

Over the past 2 days as I installed the demo versions of WD and WDL and tried to get something… anything… up on the web, I’m even more amazed at the power of both and the simplicity of WDL. OK, I was amazed at the complexity of WD too, but I’ll learn it eventually 8O

A couple of questions on WDL:

  1. Today, when I viewed my page over the web, I sometimes (maybe 50% of the time) got an error message after the images loaded. It was something like “Can’t load data,” but, of course this evening it always loads #-o, so I can’t see exactly what the message is! When it happened earlier, I would simply refresh until I got some data. How can I avoid this?

  2. After data loads, sometimes the timestamp at the top left would say something like “No data since 8:58:32!” I think I saw in the PDF guide how to avoid that, but it was sometimes taking a minute or two for new data to come in. Seems like it should update more often. Maybe I have something set wrong in WD? I’ve seen other pages that seem like the wind dials are moving almost constantly. And, could this be related to question 1?

  3. The Solar reading showed 0% all day even though it was mostly sunny. Seems like I should have something there, shouldn’t I?

My URL for the DEMO is http://users.adelphia.net/~waterbrook/wd/index.html – nothing fancy, just trying to get something working first.

Thanks for your help,
Mitch

Mitch,

The secret to WDL is having WD upload your clientraw.txt file routinely…

This FAQ may help:

Bob,

Thanks for your initial advice. I’m happy as a clam with the VP2. Santa’s work is done here this year!

I followed nikoshepherd’s advice on setting up the real-time upload last night. The problems I encountered today are since that setup. It may be my ISP or my cable connection or my setup, but I’m not sure how to know which. I did a little more tweaking tonight trying to increase the frequency of the uploads, but I’m shooting in the dark.

Hi
How often is WD set to upload clientraw.txt?
Watching your WDL, it only seems to get an update every 20 seconds or so, but the config file is set to poll for data every 4 seconds (and if it cannot get any data after 3 or 4 attempts then that is why the “no data since hh:mm:ss” appears).
In the “realtime clientraw upload” screen in webfiles/webpage setup - what is the value in the “delay between uploading data” box?
The FAQ has a value of 25 in that box - is that what you set yours to? You could change that to 4 seconds which will get the clientraw.txt uploading more often, and then WDL will update every 4 seconds too
cheers

OK. I’ll check that out this evening when I get home. I don’t think I changed the default.

Changed the value from 25 to 4, and it updates more frequently. Thanks 8)

Still concerned about the 0% solar reading. When I looked at the solar chart for 24 hours on WDL today, it showed a curve – but the bar has always shown 0%.
