Oh, Santa...

The below image is just a screen shot; the links won’t be active.

I assume that as there’s no price mentioned it’s not it our price range!

Well, it’s not in mine, but…

I e-mailed Vaisala with that question and quickly got a reply:

The base unit is $1,995 (all prices in US Dollars)
Optional heater for wind/rain instruments is $85
Connector on unit is $50
Configurator software - sounds necessary, even perhaps after Brian writes an interface  is $50
Cables are available, different prices for different lengths, but sounds as though they could be had elsewhere for less

More than your average station, but competitive with higher end ones like Texas Weather Instruments, Columbia Weather Systems, or WeatherHawk

As I thought…outside my price range…even with the current favourable dollar exchange rate. I suppose it’s not that much more than a VP Pro, but it doesn’t have as many sensors either.

That’s very nice. The rain sensor measures by measuring and counting rain drops 8O http://www.vaisala.com/page.asp?Section=49599 this describes the sonic wind speed measurement too http://www.vaisala.com/DynaGen_Attachments/Att34763/34763.pdf

That’s more than what my car is worth! 8O

I’d love one too… looks like the Porsche (Cayenne) of weather stations.

Since the Cayenne is really a Volkswagen, I guess that would make this a rebadged LaCrosse

Very nice! I wonder how the rain and wind sensors would deal with things like birds perching on the lovely platform…?

Maybe the sound pulses from the wind gauge would repel them?

seems that the fanciest Davis is 1195. Now to be the cutting comment : looks like something Homeland Security would use to gain information for someone not talk to nobody.

Actually, sound interesting. There has to be someone out there who wants something…

$2180…WOW!

I could get a VPPro2Plus, a Boltek, and a decent webcam for that kinda money…

It’s a lotta green, no doubt, but for somebody who is willing to shell out the bucks for a Texas Weather Instruments station, one from Columbia Weather Systems, or even a WeatherHawk, this Vaisala would be price competitive plus much more accurate and have better longevity. I’m with you though… give me that kinda budget and I’ll get a VP2 with all the trimmings, replace the BlurCam with a real webcam, and pay my internet bill for a year or so…

Maybe in US$, but converting the UK

So does that mean the WXT510 is $4K + after the conversion??

Possibly not. Davis is US and US$ is usually translated directly into the same number of UK

There is a significant difference between bank exchange rates and retail price exchange rates. Yes…I can go to the bank and get what xe.net says, i.e. approximately $1.86 for each

another factor(s) may be the quantity on hand the vendor ordered, the duty or import, shipping … how it is being handled. Whether or not it is being absorbed by the dealer or added to the cost of the item sold to us or they… Or did they get a dealers discount of some sorts .

I

Best of all, before the popularity of the Internet, and on-line shopping, none of us knew about pricing in different market places, so it was not a problem. Now we all know it is going on…we all want to know why.

I have VAISALA WXT510 - If you have any question I can help

  1. Sensor can measure not only rain but hail too
  2. You don’t need WXT program. But it’s lot easy if you have one and you gEt configuration cable with it
  3. Sensor I small and it can be easily damage …
  4. It communicate witch ASCII protocol that isn’t compliable with nothing else ;-(
