If you see odd things happening when accessing the forum please accept my apologies. Hopefully it’s a temporary thing whilst I try to resolve the ‘Attack of the Bots’ problem that we’ve been seeing recently. Unfortunately the bots behave almost like human users so that things I have to put in place to try to mitigate their effects can also potentially impact some usage by real humans. I’m checking the logs to identify any false positives and finding ways to work around those without letting bots get back in. Spotting the false positives in logs littered with correctly blocked access isn’t always easy though.
The thing you’ll probably see is a 403 error saying that you don’t have index to smf/index.php, although there could be other errors for different things. If you see something odd happening, please post a reply to this thread with the following details:
Date and time when the error occurred. UTC/GMT preferably but if not please give your local time and which time zone you’re in
What error you saw
What you were doing/trying to do when the error occurred
Chris not sure if this is relevant but… Just now I found myself logged out when I accessed the forum for the first time today, I then entered my user/password only to be prompted to agree the forum privacy policy, something I’ve never had before. After hitting OK to the privacy policy the forum seems to be working just fine.
Is there a time limit after which someone will be logged out of the forum? I normally login ‘forever’ and cannot remember the last time I was logged out without me expressly doing it (other than some kind of outage or update which is normally mentioned).
Modified 5 posts tonight and each time I tried to save one I got the error message “Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.”
After going “Back” from the error message the next save worked OK, every time.
I was seeing the ‘403 error saying that you don’t have index to smf/index.php’ between 18:00 and 18:30 30/1/2020 when I was trying to reply using the ‘quote’ functionality in the following thread
Error " you don’t have acces to smf/index.php" when answering topics multiple times.
Only when logging out and logging in i was able to answer.

Also no buttons (shortcuts) such as B I a.s.o. That makes answering very time consuming and error-prone.
This occurs at an iMac with Chrome / FF and Safari
It still works as in the past on my iPad, so I think it should be a cookie?
I tried all profile settings, but i can not find a setting for those buttons and smileys.

There are 5 errors visible in the inspect window, see attachment
When posting (new or modified) posts on https://www.weather-watch.com/, I do not get the buttons (and smileys) in any browser on any computer Mac or Windows. See attached screenshot comparing posting here or on the wx forum.
This all started when I had to login and apply to the privacy policy yesterday.
It is fairly difficult to post without the buttons (and smileys).
I now have another forum open to copy the BB-codes so I can use them when posting on this forum.
The problem starts on any device where I have to login to this forum.
I only get the buttons (and smileys) on my iPad, but that is not an easy device to post those answers with code snippets a.s.o.
All other SMF forums work flawlessly on all devices
I compared the forum/profile settings, but I can not detect any applicable setting for this behavior.
I can confirm I also do not see these buttons when replying to a thread. I’m using Waterfox, and I just tried Chromium as well but still do not see the smileys or buttons.
Stuart
PS Just tried Waterfox on Android and that also misses buttons and smileys. Just tried to edit this message with he small icon on right but it does nothing! Had to use the big modify button at top of message to do this.
Likewise not seeing them (only this thread checked at the moment), using any of Reply, Quote. Not seeing on New topic either. Both in Firefox Developer and Chrome
Yes, I posted that they are shown on a iPad also. But not an any normal desktop / laptop with MacOS or Windows
And to write posts and insert code and quotes is more then a little awkward on a tablet, for me at least.
Wim
P.S. I copied that from another forum-post I keep open to post on this forum.
