It reached 3000 noises/min !!!

I hope thats not normal. I have not had a problem with noise and I currently have my noise detection set on low and squelch at zero. Have you tried making any adjustments?
Have you made any changes to your computer setup, anything outdoors near your antenna.
When I first got mine, I set it up on the shelf in front of me as I wanted to see how it worked before installing it. It saw a lot of noise from the computer that was just inches from where it was mounted.
I get noise occassionally now, but not a lot.
hmmm, a computer reboot & nexstorm does not start, the receiver has red dashes so nexstorm fails to start, after a couple attempts it works.
Now the noise starts slow, but is creeping up.
No changes to my setup, running Nexstorm for about 20
months now and never seen this before.
i wonder if there is a way to find out the direction ?
The first thing I would do is to get out a tin can and cover the antenna. Doing that will prevent the antenna from receiving any signals. If you’re lucky, the lightning count will still increase which means that you may be having a hardware problem with the antenna, wiring running to the antenna, the PCI card, or the PC itself.
If you’re unlucky, then you have to start searching around the area of the antenna for anything that might be causing the noise. I’ve never tried it, but I wonder what would happen if you made a metal shield that is half-round, and started moving it around the antenna. Theoretically, (and we all know how theory works), that would only allow the antenna to pickup noise from 180 degrees. By moving the shield around the antenna, and watching the noise level, you should be able to determine what direction the noise is coming from, and then you can start looking in that direction for the noise source.
As I said, I’ve never tried it, but it sounds like it would work.
thanks for your help
It appears to occur in the afternoon
i wonder if dani
See this thread http://discourse.weather-watch.com/t/7603 in particular, the link to NSList. I don’t currently have mine running so not sure if it reports noise distance and direction or not. I don’t get much noise hits myself, but I don’t think Discharge will show you anything, might better try NSList.
I notice Tnet got the same problem

In my experience a television set is the worst thing that can be close’ish to the antenna,
then lawnmovers/grasscutters in the neighbourhood can also give me alot of noise sometimes…
Thanks for your feedback, i don’t think i’ve seen this since i started using nexstorm back in Dec. 2003
I wonder if its a solar thing
Your chart doesn’t say what it’s measuring. I suspect it’s the solar proton flux which seems to have peaks in it that seem to match up with the high dates on your chart. I think that intense solar proton events can trigger thuderstorms, so perhaps it’s not noise your seeing, but real lightning activity?
Some experience here with TV-sets … especially if they are about 5m under and about 5m away from the Boltek-antenna …
Just to let everyone know, that 7 days ago i replaced the Boltek antenna, and my noise is gone ( 20 per day, compared to 400 000 per day )
Any indications from NexStorm as to what happened to your antenna? I hope I don’t need to replace my antenna after every 20 months of use…
Do you think it got too hot? They do run warm and I’ve read before of other users having concerns with heat.
Julian
i did notice that, touching it and felt very warm !!!
any reason why ?
I doubt most will stay as hot as mine does.
During more than half the year it has to be close to 100 in the tube mine is in.
Ive had my Boltek since 2000,and its in my attic.
if its not the heat ? what could it be ?
I’ve got a 25watt radio transmitter nearby, could that be it ?
