Nexus Wireless Weather Station - anyone got it?

Anyone got this working with weather display? If so does it cut out all the time? I really like the look of this station and want to buy it along with weather display.

Hi

When I first started out with the weather hobby the “Nexus” was the first weather station that I purchased and it was the biggest waste of money I had ever wasted, I all ways had problems with it, every now and then on its own it would change from UK settings to German settings. #-o

This is my opinion its you that has to make your mind up on this one, but I think that you may be better off looking on EBAY for weather stations, you may get a better one for what a Nexus would cost you.

Good luck in your venture, also I know Swansea well, used to change trains there every week going to Fishguard.

Regards

Geoff

I have this station running two years now but the last year also a Davis Vue.
The wireless reception was always a bit temperamental especially when attached to the computer.
Stray RF noise seemed to be behind this and it was worse in certain weather types.
I never had it ‘change to German settings’ - that sounds like it was picking up a German time signal which I think you can turn off ?
The console is rather confusing to set up or look at any additional data not already showing.
It works perfectly well with WD under the Nexus/Honeywell group.

Thanks for your answers…seems like i will pass on the nexus. It’s really hard to find a good station that is supported by weather display, which also has good reviews! The Davis looks the best so far…just to expensive for me at the moment. :frowning:

I would not dismiss this station so easily…

I agree, others on here have reported very positive experiences with the Honeywell/Nexus station.

Hmmm what i really want to know is how often it cuts out with the signal, not many people on here own it though.

What distance will your installation have between the sensors and the console?

About 15 feet (or less) for temperature

And about 25-30 feet (or a bit less) for wind.

I own a Honeywell TE923, which is essentially the same but has a UV sensor.

I’ve had this station almost three years now, with very few problems. Every once in a while the wind station and UV sensor would disconnect, but nothing that a force refresh didn’t solve. Use lithium batteries and it will be two years before you have to replace them.

The wind sensor is about 40 feet vertically separated from the base, the rain/temp/uv sensor is about 60 feet. Very very little problems with mine.

Other people complain about them. It’s fine for what I use it for, and it’s better than shelling out $400 US for the lowest end Davis. That’s opinion though. The resolution on the 923 (and I suspect it’s not much different for the one you’re looking at) is as follows:

Data Measured Sampling Interval(s) Transmitting Interval Indoor Temperature/Hum 10 seconds n/a (sampled at the base unit) Outdoor Temperature/Hum 47 seconds Same Barometric Pressure 15 minutes n/a (sampled at the base unit) Wind Direction 33 seconds Same Wind Speed 11 seconds 33 seconds Precipitation 10 seconds 183 seconds UV Sensor 300 seconds Same

Thanks for your reply. What i like about the Nexus is the datalogger and the backlight, why do they have different names? I know the Irox Pro X is the same too, but that comes with a remote control.

So about 15 feet for the temp and 25 feet for wind should be ok? Also, do you have your computer on all the time with your station or do you switch off your computer so that you use the datalogger function? Regards, Marcus

I have a computer that I keep on all the time, but there have been times where the computer has ‘locked up’, and the datalogger works just fine.

And your distances should be fine. I can’t speak for any outside RF interference that I don’t have and you might. The stated max distance in the manuals for mine are 330 feet (don’t know why they don’t just say 100 meters).

I was always having constant issues with both wireless reception issues and WD’s inability to “fill any gaps” in the data once I got it started again. I have a feeling that Nexus has been mentioned in the WD version history but I have now changed stations. To try to over come the wireless problem I used a pair of ethernet/usb passive connectors but this still didn’t help - or did it hinder. Yes, the console does get complicated and the manual had to be placed nearby for reference to change any settings. Currently it is used for a remote temperature observation for greenhouse temperatures with no connection to a PC and is in line of site. It also makes a good clock! I will upgrade my Davis VP2 with an additional temperature sensor as soon as I can so WD can monitor temps. With the Davis which has been running since Jan 1, touch wood, I have never seen a wireless or data break in WD.
