I’ve just updated wxsim.com with Version 11.8.3 of WXSIM and Version 3.8 of WXSIMATE. Look in the readme files (readme11.txt and readmewm.txt) to see what’s new. If you’re already a registered user, be sure to get the upgrades, NOT the demos.
The new WXSIMATE should solve the recent intermittent problems with MOS download (of interest mainly to U.S. users), but you will probably need to change the source in the MOS list box from the http one to the new ftp one. Be sure to actually click on it - it’s not enough to just make it visible in the window. The http source remains available as a backup (or even as the primary source should the recent apparent server oddities somehow get resolved).
The main change in WXSIM is that the auto haze feature is now more accurate, to the point where I would recommend having it checked by default. The exceptions would be if you live in a place where it’s either always very hazy or always very clear, or if you want to exert manual control with interrupt keys during the run. You might also be interested in the new summary.txt output file. It might be worth posting (it actually always appeared at the end of the long test forecasts, but I thought it might be handy on its own).
I also updated the list of user’s web sites. If there are others, just add them to that thread.
Enjoy, and thanks for all your suggestions and feedback!
Thanks Tom!
Both updates are up and running here too with no problems. I had been having the dreaded ‘Continue or cancel’ box when trying to download the MOS using http… switched to the ftp and it works fine.
tried to do more with the summary.txt file, but I still see only the first one and no update after a new forecast. Is this (like always) just me or something with WXSIM?
Thanks Tom, my Summary.txt file is new again today for me with the temps and parameters of the forecast days weather ahead. Still running it once a day and on manual.
I don’t think it’s a setting unless it’s associated with archiving files. I’d try reinstalling WxSim again.
From the readme [quote]A new output file, called summary.txt, is now produced with each forecast and
placed in the directory with WXSIM. This file is a copy of the
Summary.txt and plaintext.txt are new with each forecast, with no setting for archiving them. The exact same information is in the latest.txt files, which can be archived (like f08010312.txt) by checking the archive box on the output form. There are a few other files which will be archived this way, too (.wxf, and a couple of .csv’s).
