My old Canon VB-C50iR PTZ camera failed a couple of weeks ago and when I tried to get a replacement I found out that camera had been discontinued.
I ended up getting a Canon VB-C60 PTZ camera and of course it didn’t fit my old enclosure so I ended up replacing the camera and enclosure.
The VB-C60 is a network PTZ camera with a 40X optical zoom and is powered by POE. The Dotworkz D2 enclosure protects the camera and has a blower and heater to keep the camera from getting too hot or cold. My old VB-C50iR camera only had a 26X optical zoom and the new VB-C60 with the 40X zoom is impressive. The VB-C60 uploads photos to Weather Underground for me and I grab still pictures and video directly from the camera for my web pages.

I used to own a VB-c50iR and wanted to see how the VB-C60 compared but none of my browsers can establish a connection. Not sure if that is by design or if something else is wrong…
Mmm, I can connect from my phone over the 3G network, and I can also reach it from the office network. You may have to allow 3rd party cookies to connect to it. I I had to do that at work. I don’t know why the camera won’t allow connections without accepting cookies from the camera.
I’ll have to check into that, maybe it’s a setting I can disable
My VB-C50iR was a nice camera. For some reason the vertical movement went bad. The camera still has all other functions, but if it is pointed down for any reason, it won’t come back up. I had to lock it in once position vertically, and only allow horizontal movement. I would of bought another one, but they are discontinued. The places that still had them wanted almost as much as the VB-C60 and that was no deal since one camera is discontinued and the other has better features.
I ordered the VB-C60 after talking with a sales shark who assured me the VB-C60 would fit into the the same housing as the VB-C50iR. I asked if he was sure since the new camera is about 1 inch taller, and he said “it ought to fit just fine.” It did fit into the dome, but when I tried to put the bottom lens on, that camera hit the lens ans I could not fasten the lens into place. I think I could of made some shorter standoffs and made it fit, but I was tired of messing with it and just bought a new enclosure
Neither of the camera have good night vision, but they’re both great cameras as long as there is sufficient light available. Both have great optical zooms with the VB-60 having almost twice as much zoom as the VB-C50iR model. The POE for the VB-60 is also a nice feature, but since you need power for the enclosure for the blowers and heaters there would be power available for the camera. Both cameras have their own power supplies and the
VB-C50iR power supply won’t work with the VB-C60. The Dotworkz enclosure can power the camera if you add the required connector to the internal wiring.
I would of been happy with another VB-C50iR, but couldn’t find one at a price I was happy with so I went with the newer model.
I wouldn’t be opposed to selling the camera and dome together with the understanding the camera doesn’t move vertically, but does move horizontally with full range of movement.
being a owner of a VB-C50iR, do you think your new camera has better night vision . I like the VB-C50iR but its night vision is awful compared to my Axis. personally if I get another PTZ camera I think it will be a axis
The VB-C60 has better night vision then the VB-C50iR, but neither one is exceptional once it gets really dark if you ask me. My old Panasonic PTZ had full color video at night (at a very slow frame rate, but it was still color), both the Canon cameras switch to black & white once the light level goes down.
The VB-C60 is rated at 0.2 lux sensitivity
The VB-C50iR is rated at 1.0 lux sensitivity
According to the lux rating, the VB-C60 should be much better then the VB-C50iR camera in low light conditions.
That is impressive, response was so fast I almost didnt believe it, zoom is impressive, light response is very good, and the control software is great.
I will have to check into this camera and see how much and what the control Software for PC is like as I assume your running it on a MAC
No, the camera has it’s own built-in web server the users connect to. The camera doesn’t need a computer, it just needs a ethernet address and it’s good to go. Users can view the camera and not have to worry about what kind of computer or browser they’re using. The only control software required is the users own web browser. There is admin software for the camera itself which allows you to configure the camera settings, any viewing restrictions, email alerts, motion alerts, etc, etc.
It’s great, no problems and was easy to setup. For some reason there were always a few people who would try to screw the camera up by pointing it at something closeup and zooming in all the way and then just leaving it there. They also did it with the previous camera as well. This time I have restricted the camera movement to keep people from spinning the camera around, pointing it to the house or at the ground and zooming all the way in.
I should of done this with the first camera too, but never got around to it for some reason.
All in all it’s a great camera and has a much better zoom and night vision then my previous VB-C5iR camera. The enclosure also has a lot more room in it for mounting things like a wireless or 3G radio and antenna. I think it’s a really nice setup for my needs.
Yes the only time I tired your camera I think it was looking at the ground and I could not get it to stop…(thought it seen something it liked there) I would be scared that someone would make it look at the sun and blind it…just my thoughts…
I think it was probably the broken VB-C50iR camera when you tried it the last time.
With the new VB-C60 camera, they can’t point it towards the sun because I have limited the movement of the camera.
The new camera can only look up and down as far as I have allowed it to move, and the same for horizontal movements.

Glad you like the camera, it was a good upgrade from the previous camera. The old camera had a 26X optical zoom and the new camera has a 40X optical zoom as well as other upgraded features.
Yes, there was a fire on July 4th while the facility was full of people. There were no injuries and everyone got out alright.
The fire damaged one building and the cause was a fault with the buildings electrical wiring. They’re about to begin demolition of the damaged building and will rebuild it. The whole facility will change from being a hotel into luxury condos. The undamaged portions of the facility will be remodeled to match the rebuilt building. There are a few people who live in the facility year around, and they will need to find another place to live when they begin the remodeling of the building.
