new pc

Anyone know of an easier way to transfer WD to another computer without using the thread posted on how to do so since I dont understand how it’s done.

Thanks

Moving WD to a new/different PC is this the link you have followed, seems straight forward, tell us what you don’t understand, see if we can help

Yes. That would be it. I just dont understand how to transfer from pc to pc. #-o

Stumpted here…

On the new computer, look in C:\wdisplay\databackup for “wdisplay.ini” (it will say “configuration files”). Move that file from the databackup to the C:\windows folder.
Note: Window XP & Windows 98 will be C:\windows - Windows 2000 will be C:\winnt.
Note that after version 10.33, the wdisplay.ini file is now stored where you have WD installed

Then, still on the new computer, go back into the databackup folder. Find a file called “wdisplayftp.reg” (it will say “registration entries”). Simply double click that file to execute the registry entries.

Do I have to get a new registration key when doing this?

You shouldn’t need one no. Mine was still registered ok when I transferred WD to a new PC last month.

So what have you done so far? Have you backed up the registry entries and then made a backup of the entire c:\wdisplay folder on the old PC onto something like an external drive or removable media (e.g DVD) ready to copy onto the new computer? Have you then copied the backed up wdisplay folder onto the new computer?

If you have done that, ignore the bit that says move wdisplay.ini to the windows folder as I can’t imagine anyone will be using a version of WD prior to 10.33 anymore so that bit is well out of date now.
So if you have got as far as copying your entire wdisplay folder onto the new PC go to c:\wdisplay\databackup on your new PC - find wdisplayftp.reg and double click on it to merge the registry entries.

You have to copy and move the entire WDisplay folder from your old computer to new.

Then you do the wdisplayftp.reg bit and THEN you must install WD on the computer to the same location as you moved the directory.

Havent done anything so far. Can I just copy wd to my server then open it up on new pc and copy to c drive?

Yes indeed after backing up registry entries and closing down WD.
Your webpage files will also need to be copied to the same folder on the new PC as the old PC I expect.

Webpage files?

My mistake as you seem to be using the carterlake template etc - forget I mentioned it
Have you transferred WD to the new PC ok yet?

No I haven’t as I’m iffy about doing it. Don’t want to screw something up.

make sure to first download and install WD to the new pc
then copy over the old folder to the pc
then double click the wdisplayftp.reg file from the old pc on the new pc
(the newly created one on the old pc, after going action, back up registry entry now)

Ok,

  1. action → backup registry entries, then shutdown WD on old PC.
  2. backup the wdisplay folder from old PC to your server
  3. copy entire wdisplay folder to new PC from your server
  4. double click on wdisplayftp.reg in databackup folder on new PC
  5. download and run latest full WD install on new PC to wdisplay folder.
  6. Once weather station is connected to new PC (check same COM port number as old) then launch WD on new PC.

(that is what I did apart from step 5 and had problems with FTP but Brian put me right so the above should work for you)

Worked perfectly. Thanks.
