Need Help with buying a $400 or less professional home weather station.

I have always wanted to buy a weather station for my disaster restoration company here in S. Dakota and now since it has been below zero at night for the last few weeks and almost three feet of snow have fallen it looks like I want to take the leap of faith and buy one. Anyone out there think they can help me find one with my budget of $400 or less. What I want for features is current weather conditions, including indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, dew point and rainfall. I also want moon phase, sunrise/sunset times, graphing of weather trends.

I have very very briefly looked at the Davis 6250 Vantage Vue but are there better systems out there? Thanks everyone from flipping cold S. Dakota.

You won’t do better than a Davis in that price range.

Well this is a start. Anyone else care to chime in about this unit and what my other options are in a higher dollar amt?

I agree with the comment, in this price range you can’t do better than a Davis station. You’ll need the computer interface (weatherlink) so that’s another $120. Your next step would be to the base model of the Davis Vantage Pro2 which is functionally quite a step up for not a lot of extra $, or you could buy a more expensive version of the Davis Vantage Pro2 with more features, but the $ jump to another brand to get something better will be significant, like a Campbell or Vaisala, which run in the $K’s. You can also spend more but not get anything better IMHO and I won’t name those suppliers.

Rock on guys! I really appreciate the info on this thing. Can someone elaborate on exactly what I may need and a dollar amount associated with this thing? Thanks once again.

This year I bought a Davis Vantage Pro2 after going through 3 cheaper units by another manufacturer. I did not have the $ at the time for the Plus model, but I added a solar sensor this Christmas. You can compare features here:http://www.davisnet.com/weather/choose_vantage_simple.pdf

makes a lot of sense. I am not anywhere near what most of you are for forecasting so I think I am going to go with the inexpensive $395 model. Anyone know any special sites where I can buy this for less than what manufacture suggests?
