Need help!! searching Wm918 parts

Hi all,
i’m searching for oregon wm918 parts, except for console, but i’d like to buy even a complete one.
Let me know! thanks guys

you should be able to wire in a wmr968 anenometer into a wm918 I would think

You can use that anamometer, i modified one to work with my wm918. Your have to remove the rf board from the bottom of the unit and soldered the wires color for color with the exception of two wires that have to be reversed to get the wind direction to come out right. I do not recall the two that i reversed off hand but if you decide to get one i will open it up and let you know.

another thing just get a good rain guage like i did. I got a Davis with the 40 feet of wire and set my measurement to .254 and now i get .01 inch readings instead of .04.

I forgot to mention that i have been looking for a replacement outdoor sensor and i can not find one. I was hoping the thgr968 sensor could be modified but i finally found a good picture of the board inside and it is different than the wm918, for one thing it has a built in regulator on the board which accounts for the extra to wires , probably power wires. No joy there.

I have a WM918 that I want to resurrect and need (surprise, surprise) and outdoor temperature/humidity sensor and also a junction box. I can make the junction box but I need a sensor. Are we sure that the THGR968 cannot be used (obviously without the wireless bit) as I have seen it advertised as being for the WM918?

I still have the rain gauge, console and anemometer/wind vane and would consider selling these if I cannot get the temperature sensor. I wonder if it is possible to modify the THGN801 which seems to be the latest incarnation?

I have two outdoor sensors, three consoles and one new converted 968 anamometer and one regular that was working when i took it down plus two connection boxes that i do not need anymore. Let me know if you are still interested in parts. email me at [email protected]

So, just removing the board and wiring the cable directly does the trick? Great, I’ll give that a shot this weekend. I got one of these as a replacement, thinking that it could be a straight replacement with an extension cable. No such luck. I was thinking that maybe pulling out that board would do the trick, but didn’t want to take the plunge, just in case. Glad to have someone else try it first.

I may be in this boat to replace the anemometer on my WM-918. The direction indicator works, but not the speed indicator. I plan to take it down and pull it apart to see if something needs cleaning or what not.

Looks like this would be my replacement part.

I have repaired the anny on my old wm918 it has been awhile. As long as the bearings are ok, i got a reed switch from radio shack and it just solders on a board that you can pull out of the housing. As i remember you take the wind direction pot loose which lets you see down into the housing a lets you pull slack from the cable so you have enough slack to raise the pcb board that the switch is mounted on. The wmr918 anny works but it has an rf board in the base and you have to pull it out and jump the wires across but two of the wires have to be swapped to get the right wind direction. I have a new one that i set up for a spare and never used and i have a used working anny that i took down when i got my wmr200.

Got around to taking my anemometer down today. It was all ‘sweaty’ inside - lotta moisture. PCB is about 1/2 corroded and the bearing on the bottom is a little ‘grindy’ as is the directional pot on top. Ordered this replacement.

I was curious if there is anything I can do to modify this new unit to make it more weatherproof? Silicone in some places?

Anyone know if the stock bearing is sealed or if you can replace it with a more quality bearing?

That is the same one i modified for my wm918. It has an interface board in the bottom that you have to take out and i jumped the wires color for color and had to reverse two wires to get the wind direction to work right.

Got my part, but want to verify, the board behind the plate is not needed when using this for the WM918?

Can someone shed light on which wires need to be rolled?

Thanks,

Okay - so I removed the board from the base, however, the wiring is a bit of a mystery as there are only four common colors.

Extension side (matches old WM918 sensor wire colors) has:

White
Green
Yellow(ish)
Blue
Black
Red

Ribbon cable from board to sensor has:

Brown *
Red
Orange *
Yellow
Green
Blue

  • indicates ‘new’ color

How do I jumper these?

Got this connected today. Wind speed works fine however I’m seeing the North and South direction swapped with this current wiring - can anyone please shed light on which pair needs to be rolled?

Currently Wired as follows:
Old 918 extension back to station <> New Ribbon Cable (board removed)
Yellow - Yellow
Blue - Blue
Red - Red
Green - Green
Black - Brown
White - Orange

Appreciate any input on this.

Try looking at this website

Circuit diagrams and more besides there. Should help you find the answer.

Best wishes

Good reference for the 918 parts but nothing in there regarding the replacement part ribbon cable color coding. :frowning:

But there is the schematic of the 918 wind sensor with colors, that shows blue and green as the two ends of the direction potentiometer which would be the colors to swap, and I see you cross referenced the new colors to the old colors in an earlier post, so I think you have what you need.

I just read your post this pm and if you have not found out the correct color combo i will take the bottom off of the one i have modified in the am and post the colors on here in the am. Mine works fine.

Woot - thanks for the nudge in the right direction, niko! Green and blue needed to be rolled.

Thanks for the offer to check your station, jerryg!

Verified working wiring:

Old 918 extension back to station < > New WGR968 sensor ribbon cable (after RF board removed)
Yellow - Yellow
Blue - Green
Red - Red
Green - Blue
Black - Brown
White - Orange

Thanks again for the replies. Will be nice to get wind reading again.
