Need 2nd webcam - wireless options?

I have kind of a restricted view from my webcam due to the restriction of USB cable length.

I am currently using a Logitech 5000 with a 10’ standard USB cable plus a 15’ live USB cable (or whatever you call it) - and it works fine.

In order to get a view of the east side of my house (much better view of the sky etc), I would need to go a bit further than my current 32’.

So, being I feel a little behind on this technology, I thought I would ask about my options here.

I’m trying to keep the cost of my second cam at $100 or less.

Is there such a thing as a wireless USB cam?

I’ve looked at some IP cams, but they are pretty expensive - also, if I do end up with an IP cam, can I easily set it up as a second webcam in WD?

More than $100 but I have a Panasonic BL C140 IP cam (wired), they are about $175. You can power it down the cat 5 so the wiring is easy and it can be mounted outdoors. You can also extend some USB cams using extenders that use cat 5 cable, but the inexpensive ones are USB 1 and don’t work with all cams.

That’s an idea niko - I do have a CAT5 line run down into the basement already - and to be powered through the CAT5 would make it easy for sure.

I’ll take a look at that Panasonic cam.

You might like to take a look through this Topic too; you’ll find quite a few content users of the Panasonic BL C140 there, plus some sample shots, etc.

Thanks for the input folks - I like what I see with the Panasonic cam - just have to save up a bit for it…
