migrating to WeatherLink Live

Hi all - I did some searching but didn’t find the right info for this scenario; I apologize if this has been documented somewhere and I missed it.

I currently have a Vantage Vue with the Serial data logger on a PC. That PC runs WD and that’s how I capture my data.

I’d like to virtualize the PC and get rid of the actual computer.

To that end, I began looking into Davis’ WeatherLink Live.
My thinking is I can run a virtual machine with WD and it could talk to the WLL.
I don’t think there will be any issue with this.

I may, or may not use Weatherlink cloud as well, but, that doesn’t seem like it would impact this part of the process - I would just need to point WD at WLL instead of the serial logger.

My main questions:

  1. I am correct in my understanding that I can have WD talk to the WLL device directly on my network and not have to pull data from WeatherLink Home - yes?
  2. Is there a way to get the historical data from WD (I have years of data) into Weatherlink cloud (if I choose to use their cloud service as well). I’m thinking I can somehow export from WD in a format WeatherLink.com would accept.
  1. Yes. You can do both…download direct from the WLL box and have the WLL box upload to the cloud at the same time.
  2. I’ve not seen anything that can do that, but I’ve not specifically gone looking for it.

hi chris! thank you for the reply.

i will continue to do more reading/research, but, in general, is there a way to pull the collected historical weather data out of WD - ie, an export? I’m assuming yes.

i’m thinking it would be something relatively simple like this:
export data from WD into a format WL can interpret
then, import that data into WL.

there are instructions from Davis that assume you have their software installed as the data source so this is likely possible, I just wasn’t certain how to export data from WD.

2) Is there a way to get the historical data from WD (I have years of data) into Weatherlink cloud (if I choose to use their cloud service as well). I'm thinking I can somehow export from WD in a format WeatherLink.com would accept.
not possible sorry, as Davis has not made the data format public

understood - thank you!
