Migrate from PC to Mac

Hi all,
i have many years of data on weather display on windows. I wish to install a new version of weather display on the mac and import all the data.

I found instructions that were a few years old which now don’t apply since the installation on the mac is different to what it was then. Any ideas? Thanks

first install and run the mac version
then exit
then copy the logfiles and data files folders and the WDISPLAY.INI file (needs to be named upper case) to
~/Library/Application Support/wdisplay/

Brian,
thanks for your reply. However it would seem that directory doesn’t exist since the application changed to being installed as a packaged app with the drag and drop to the application folder now. There is no wdisplay folder under application support. I can’t seem to find a folder structure for it anywhere which has left me confused. THe app is installed of course.

Rick,

Are you running Lion on your Mac? If so, have you un-hid the user library? The directory Brian is pointing to isn’t the System Library but one under your user name. (I know, confusing, which is probably why Apple hid it in Lion.)

If you are using Lion and haven’t un-hid it, use Terminal (in your Applications → Utilities folder)

Launch it, then type in

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

and then hit return

Now you should be able to see the ~/Library/ Application Support/wdisplay/ folder (where ~ is your root directory.)

I hope that helps,
Steve

those folders are created the first time you run the program
(after first copying across the library files
(but though try as a test running the latest .zip Mac update from the download page, as I have placed the .dylib files on the MacOS folder now, which seems to be all that is needed since OSX 10.5
(would be good to test that theory)

Thanks to all for your help. I have the program up and running now.

Does the mac version have the “real time clientraw upload” feature for ajax scripts? or are we limited to 1 minute uploads in the file creation screen.
Thanks

In fact Im having all sorts of trouble getting the ajax scripts working in the mac. The testtags create one tick feature doesnt seem to be in the mac version. Ive set it up manually but it still isnt updating all tags properly.

Ill go over to the ajax forums to see if theres anything obvious there.
Cheers.

there is a new clientrawrealtimeftp program for the mac version:
http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/clientrawrealtimeftp.zip
you will need to manualy start it
its included with this .zip Mac update
http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/WeatherDmacnew.zip
but use the 1.4 version from the link above though
it correctly uploads the clientrawcustom.txt too

you should be able to use the special file conversion in the mac version for the test tags

Yup that worked  All good now. Thanks heaps

What files from the windows machine need to be grabbed off the PC and installed on the Mac in order to keep all of my old settings intact?
