Well this is getting aggrivating.
WD continues to get data from the console.
The FTP program crashes and burns for some reason
and stops uploading. If I open up any windows
in control panel the program crashes. I can shut down
WD and save everything as long as I dont open any windows up
within the program.
if there are lot of ftp icons showing in the system tray, then you will be lower and lower on memory
if the memory gets too low, then wd will have trouble functioning, as will any software
how much memory on the pc?
maybe your internet connection is getting lost?
try reducing the overall time out for the ftp in the connections setup in the ftp/internet setup
i am not surprised you also had trouble with VWS…your system does not sound very stable
No Icons in there tray at all
512 megs of ram
Nope, can connect to the net with IE fine and dandy
How long would you suggest?
This is the 4th computer I’ve tried this on. XP with 1 gig of ram, xp2500+ processor,
ME with a 500mhz processor, XP with 512 megs of ram and a 1.4 ghz processor
They may all be infested with spy ware. Not uncommon.
Run Ad-Aware and Spy bot Search and Destroy. Both can be downloaded free.
You may need to wipe a hard drive an do a clean install of the OS.
Run Windows Live One care and have for over a year.

On all of the machines you listed above? If so that MAY be the problem. I run the BETA version of the anti-spy ware on a couple of my machines, and it is just that BETA, I tried to set it up to skip certain directoies, but is disregards my settings and scans anyway.
You also might want to check any/all of the AV/spyware programs to see WHEN they are scheduled to scan, and see if they are occuring around the time you’re getting lockups in WD.

I just went to your site at 4:35pm (same time zone as you)
The time on your pages shows 2:54pm, so it looks like it hasn’t updated since then.
But…on your WD Live page, it shows the current time, and seems to be uploading correctly.
So it seems that your regular uploads stopped, but WDL live is updating via realtimeftp.
Just trying to help out - maybe Brian or someone can pick something up by this…

The FTP stops uploading for some reason. WDL will continue for quite a while
all by itself for some reason.
I had the FTP time-out at 30 seconds and changed it to 10 this morning also.
so WDL is still showing current data?
(which means WD is still getting and supplying current data)

i dont think you want to get aggrevated about these things, life is too short
with computers, there is most often a solution, but getting angry only makes things worse
staying cool carm and collected is the best thing
Yes Brian. I checked when I got home and WD’s data was current
and still updating. FTP was DOA. I still cannot click on any menus
when its like that and if I do, WD crashes. I can “save and exit” ok though
I went in and allowed the FTP program and WD and clientraw to be allowed
all the time in Windows Firewall also for the heck of it.
A happy computer is a computer that has a bare minimum of “stuff” installed. 
You may still be infested with spyware/adware.
It’s best that you only install what is absolutely needed on any computer. If this is a dedicated computer for WD, then remove everything that isn’t directly needed for WD or your website. Scan with Ad-Aware and then with Spy-bot Search & Destroy.
Most utilities such as Windows Live One care is typically just unneeded bloat. Anything microsoft is hawking (Live One Care) I would be highly suspect of. 
Well today it died, but somewhere along the way
FTP fired back up.

that is the root of your problems
and is eventualy leading to:
Out of system resources at time/date 5:25:20 PM 08/17/06
you need to sort out the image file problem
most likely you have set to animated a web cam image or similar, but have not selected a correct image file, or similar
(i.e you might have selected an icon image)
if you try running the debug beta version, it should give more information on where the problem is in wd, in a file called WeatherD.elf, in c:
(copy and paste that file contents here)
Yeah, I had the webcam set up and was monkeying around
with it and forgot to turn all that off. I’m downloading the Debug version currently also
EDIT: I downloaded the debug version but I havent come across
the file you want me to look for. Plus the program error log hasnt
grown either. I cleared it out and will look at it in the morning.
that file only gets created when there is an error
so you might be ok now that you have turned off the web cam thing you were playing around with?
