Metar Download: "Use the Wind and Direction..."

We already have humidity and barometer as individual choices, or “everything” as a Metar data global override. Adding Wind and Direction as a choice would be great! This would allow us to capture Metar wind data, while using local 1-wire temperature, humidity or baro sensors for a “partial” station.

Thanks!

Good idea,
I would like to second this request to be able to use the METARs wind speed and direction. Chris MacDougall, Fleet, UK

Hi Brian,

Is there any chance of getting this feature added? We’re entering “wind chill” season in a big way here in the US NE, and it would be great to have. Thanks in advance!

already there in a new 10.17x

Thanks!!!

Well, it looks like the “wind and direction” feature isn’t quite working. When I activated it, it worked fine. When my Metar changed from 7mph to calm, it stayed at 7mph indefinitely. When I restarted WD, it correctly switched to 0 mph. When the winds kicked back up to 8mph, it stayed at zero, and even a restart won’t fix it…

I’m using KDXR for my metar data.

I’m noticing that my WS2310 station wind direction overrides the metar wind direction. Since I don’t have my anemometer installed it is just flatlining the direction where the last anemometer direction was reported.

ryan, its not supposed to over-ride a weather station
that would take a fair bit more work

(use the , use set all values instead)…

i will do some experiments

Ahhhhhhhhhh ok. Don’t go through any more trouble on my account.

i can do it ryan…i just have to finish off some fire force meeting minutes first

A little more info on the bug… WD updated wind speed and direction all day today until the wind went calm. At that point, it reatined the last wind speed (4.6mph), and never changed it to zero. It seems that it isn’t parsing the change to a calm wind correclty. Here’s the metar output:

that will be it
i will fix

hi
ok, try a new 10.17y
in about 1 hour times

Thanks, Brian! You ARE the man!! I’ll put it through the paces…

I ran the new 10.17y all day today. Unfortunately, it never picked up the wind changes. It has been stuck on 0 mph all day (winds are currently 9mph)…

Rich

Strangely, once i viewed the “downloaded metar” page in setup, it began reading the wind speed. It ignored the wind throughout the entire day prior to this. Very odd!

This is still a problem in 10.18c.

Well, my gust theory didn’t work out. 10.18d stayed at 0mph with a 30mph gust in the Metar download. I found that if I uncheck the “use wind…” box in the download Metar section, exit, re-enter the page, re-check it, and exit, it starts using the wind again until they go calm. Then when the wind blows again, the gauges stay at zero. Any idea what cases this Brian?

Thanks,

Rich

Well, this was working for a while.

If you are using ver 10.20o then that is the problem. Change to ver 10.20q. All OK
