Hi, I have a problem with the METAR download. The test button successfully downloads the METAR, and all of the usage of the metar data works fine. However, even though i have set the METAR to download every 15mins it does not download the METAR data (the files in the metar folder remain the same versions, unless i do another test - which updates them). Can’t see anything obvious thats wrong with the settings - not much to do other than specify the times… so is it a bug?
Hi Bob, yeah i just set it at 15mins… the metar i’m using is hourly (at 20 past the hr) so will set it for that when i can get the schedule working… Yep the internet switch is on - all other functions are working as expected (FTP’s to my website, Wunderground, etc…). BTW i’m using the HTTP metar download as opposed to the FTP option…
Cheers, Andy
Hi,
WD uses its FTPUPD.exe program to download the METAR data. Do you see the FTPUPD icon briefly appear in the taskbar by the clock at 22 minutes past the hour as per your schedule?
Also check file ftplogfull.txt in your wdisplay directory just after 22 minutes past. Does it show text similar to the following (as you also use Bristol Airport METAR like I do)
Checking for what else to do…
there are 1 more things to do
Next file HTTP metar station download http://weather.noaa.gov/pub/data/observations/metar/decoded/EGGD.TXT
Downloading to :C:\wdisplay\EGGD.met
final download setting=C:\wdisplay\EGGD.met
Doing metar download now

if not then the 22 minutes past the hour setting may not be working. EGGD usually updates every 30 minutes at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour (as seen at Local Weather Forecast, News and Conditions | Weather Underground). I just use the every 15 minutes option (00,15,30,45) as I didn’t want to enter all the times manually, and the METAR is downloaded ok even if it means data is duplicated (but will pick up new data at 00 and 30 minutes), as WD also uploads my weather data at the same time. 15 minutes may be too often but sometimes the airport may issue special weather statements in between the scheduled ones.
But this is with build 70 not 79 so don’t know if something has changed recently.
Thanks Martyn, I checked the ftplogfull log file - there is very little in mine… ftplog has a bit more info - but just a one liner saying its doing the metar download. BUT interesting it appears i have got it working. All i’ve done this time is use the manual option to setup downloads at 22 and 52 mins past the hour, and it works it appears the “every x mins” option wasn’t working for me for some reason…
