Do you mean something like that? If so, click the chain links at the bottom of the post you want to link to.
If you see a topic number like “71302” then it’s the whole topic thread. If you see something like “71302/13” it’s the 13th post in topic 71302.
Something that’s also useful…if you decide you want a link whilst writing a post then you can click away at the top of the screen to find the other post and get it’s link whilst the compose window stays open at the bottom of the screen. Find the link, paste it in and carry on typing your message. That’s a distinct improvement over SMF.
When you press the Reply button if you’ve got a different message displayed in the top of the screen then it asks which message you’re replying to which is even more helpful.
Alternatively, you can close the compose window and save it as a draft (optionally). Your draft messages appear in ‘My Posts’ and you can go back finish editing them later.
