I’m currently running with the Boltek PCI card and have had very good luck with it. Site: www.boltek.com They have 2 types of units, the PCI version and the LD250 (standalone)

Software: Lightning 2000 or Astrogenic - Both good products.
http://www.aninoquisi.com/ for Lightning 2000
http://www.astrogenic.com/ for NexStorm(Astrogenic)

I’ve looked at the Boltek stuff before, but the non-US map version is a frightening $600 (+ import duty + VAT + exchange rate ‘enhancement’ + carrier tax/duty collection fee). I’m guessing at around

dang, thats scary!
the photo I mean!

there is always the option of using a dallas 1 wire lightning counter…
but you only get counts, no direction/intensity info…
and you could even use one of those with the labjack.com too and WD

I had to test the avatar upload, so thought it was time for a change of picture. It would be more scary blown up to full screen size on a big monitor

When I get some time available from rebuilding servers, rebuilding PCs and rebuilding my web site(s) and fora, I must get back to rebuilding my weather station/weather web site. I keep on thinking I must try WDL and 1-wire/Labjack, etc. I’ve got some Dallas kit in a box somewhere from about 3-4 years ago, so perhaps some of that will be usable.

someone would be rich if they could event a more time machine…I need one of those!
or a time stand still machine, while you work on something you like (instead time going even faster like it does )

This thread has my Boltek LD-250 Lightning Detector Observations http://weather-watch.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1789

CaptDilli,

What’s your opinion now you have had the Boltek system a while and solved most of the original problems? Has it improved from “expensive toy”?

I consider any lightning detector an toy, expensive or otherwise. I have not figured out a reliable way to calibrate my system.
The Boltek system will display information indicating the presence of lightning. I am not convinced that the bearing and range are always correct. :?

Toy, Toy, Toy. But I would not be without the Boltek/Lightning 2000 systems.
Of course to use the lightning detector I must leave all systems plugged in during a storm.

Thanks for the input. I’m due for a new toy but having a hard time deciding what it’s to be :?
