Another good site, the one I check out:-

I use an app called Earthquake on my droid for this type of info.
Example… 4.2 quake this morning in the Cypress region.
Thanks for mentioning that; I hadn’t seen it before. I just put it on my Archos 10" Android
tablet; it works and looks great.

This is the one I refer to a lot. Recent earthquakes are highlighted with a flashing circle as well as a text listing further down the page. The site also has a ton of other information regarding disasters, epidemics, hazards, etc.
Kevin - What app did you use to get the screenshots? I like Earthquake but wish it had the capability built in.
It depends on the device. On my Archos 101 Android tablet, I can set it so that it will
take a screen shot when I give the power button a short push. In this case, the setting
is under: Settings>Applications>Development>“Take a screen shot instead of suspending”.
I temporarily set that, take my screen shot, then reset it back to normal operation. The
screen shot .jpg goes into the root directory.
HTH.

Thanks, Keith. I have a Motorola Droid but without rooting the phone there doesn’t seem to be a screen capture utility.
While it’s a bit kludgy, I’ve used this method to get a screen shot on my HTC Hero:
Much more involved than what it takes on my Archos tablet, but it does work.

That’s a lot of work for a screenshot. I think I will just take a picture of the screen with my camera. LOL!

Droid’s by default don’t have image taking abilities because access to that requires superuser capabilities. You can as mentioned, setup the SDK and use it to take images, but like you said that is a lot of work for an image unless you are going to do that anyway.
My phone is rooted however, and the images were taken with an app called ShootMe. When loaded, you just shake the phone and it takes a picture of what is currently on the screen. Then using astro or some image program, you can share the image to another location via email (or imgur).
To root or not root is a good question. Most never do it contrary to what popular forum (Droid forums) users think as a vast majority of users never tweak their phones much. I use/need it because there other tools that I want, the biggest being Titanium Backup.
I have a list of apps that I use on my home site… haven’t changed it much for a while because after a while, there is really nothing big or new to add. http://www.tnet.com/droid/whatapps
