Problems with GFS data

In the new version thread several people mentioned they got a GFS too old message on completion of their forecast run. I got this on the previous version so there is a problem with GFS. I normally run with McMahon set for GFS, so I tried using Bohler instead but using that option I get no GFS data at all. So for me Chris’ data is old data, shows as the midnight run from 16th August, but Bohler gives me nothing at all. Stuart

Hi Everybody, As you may have seen from a couple of other threads, NOAA is having server problems and the GFS data is somewhat unreliable (especially today). I have download the version 12.10.1c, 12.10.1d and 12.10.1e but the error persist, this morning i’ve try to use 12.10.2beta but the problem is the same

With thi error the forecast i delay of 24 hours, today should be thunderstorm and tomorro only cloud but ther program dispplay thunderstorm for tomorrow and cloud for after tomorrow…

I hope to explain my problem wiht my poor english.

I just tested mine and its fine. Can you confirm whether you are using Bohler or McMahon in wxsimate? I am using McMahon and mine came down as 0600hrs today 8th August 2013.

Two things you should look at:

(1) Is the start time/date correct for the forecasts (sometimes problems with log files make these wrong).

(2) Is the GFS data actually old? Look in wdata.txt and scroll down until you see something like this:

In this example, the GFS run was initialized at 12Z of September 5, and was probably released about 19Z, and should be used by WXSIM with no messages up until about 12Z of September 6.

A thought has come into my head… are you sure that the wdata.txt file being created by wxsimate and the one you are viewing (and WXSim is using) are the same file?

Also check that the disk containing these files is not full. Make sure you have the full path to wdata.txt specified correctly at the top of the wxsimate screen. If none of this is the problem …

Then as a test delete all copies of wdata.txt you can find on your PC and then run wxsimate and see what is downloaded.

Hi,
I’ve check the space fisk is ok, 24gb free in 45, the file is the same and then only, i’ve try to do this:

-I rename the file wdata.txt in wdata_old.txt to see if the wxsimate create the file but nothing new file is create

-I’ve reinstall the sult upgrade, receck if wxsim mate generate the file but nothing, it downlod the file but don0’t create the wxdata.txt

The path i correct because is simple, c:\wxsim, however attach a print screen of my wxswimate

The problem is clera…wxsimate not create the file…

P.S.
The date of last modify of wxdate.txt file is 4/9/2913 as inside the file

Well that is strange. From the screen shot it does not look right, at the stage you took this image it has not done the download and culling of the data, also those white lines by METAR SYNOP and RAOB should have a url in each one. Something is wrong with your setup of wxsimate.

Just noticed you do NOT have ‘Auto Cull and append right after download’ ticked. So make sure you select an item in each of those 3 I mentioned and also tick this Auto Cull. Then try running it again and let us know.

Hi,
the screen was during download, the blue bars are partitial for taht reason :), the SYNOP and RAOB have the correct URL.

Few walks up…with the ticks on Auto Cull and append right after download the wdata.txt will create but now, during the download, have and error of “GFS source not available”,attach the screen…

I fell that we are near to the resolution…

ok…i fix the downlad problem, i select McMahon and not Bohlert…and teh wxdate is create correctly…good good…now wait the nwxt schedulert to know if all work fine.
