I have a WeatherLink Live (WLL) box and was planning on switching from the VP2 Pro console to the WLL box to feed WeatherDisplay (WD). I’ve had a couple of issues.
In Control Panel / Station Type Settings / Davis WLL I entered the IP address, DID, V2 API Key and V2 API Key Secret. The first time I didn’t click Enabled because there was a chance of rain (rare occurrence in the desert) didn’t want to lose I drop so figured I’d wait till after the flood before I switched over. It just did a little spitting, nothing measurable (sigh)
Next day I went back to enable but had to type all the info back in the fields because it was blank. I figured, OK if you don’t enable it doesn’t save so retyped and enabled. Looked like everything was working, I was getting data from the WLL and looked to be correct. Had another issue (next paragraph) so I restarted WD to see if that corrected the 2nd issue. Once again all fields were blank in the Davis WLL setup so all the information was not saved even after being enabled.
One of the most important visual displays on the WD screen is the Solar w/m2 graph. At a glance I can see what the sun / solar panels are doing. In the WLL setup I have solar checked but not UV because I don’t have a UV sensor. Within the WLL app it shows the w/m2 data. WD does not pick this up from WLL. When I switch over from the VP2 Console to WLL the graph flatlines from where it last was on the VP2 Console. The attached pic shows a cloudy day (once again rare) with lots of peaks and valleys and then a flatline when I switched to WLL.
From what others have told me my WLL config information should be saving. Is there something else I should be doing to save the IP/DID/API info? Is there something I should be doing with the COM/IP Port setting? I think I hit close port, maybe that didn’t take and WD is trying to get the w/m2 info from the com port? I know that WD was getting data from WLL because I unplugged the USB cable and WD was still getting data. Is there another setting to channel the w/m2 data from the WLL? If I can’t get the solar graph working with WLL I will need to stay with the VP2 Console because at this point in time that graph is a priority.
I have the latest Mac build 359 running OS 10.14.6
I had hit the “Close/Save” button after entering data both times. I will try again and check the WDISPLAY. INI file tomorrow morning when I have time to work on it. It must not have saved to the INI file so maybe when Davis WeatherLink shows up as the weather station type the solar may work? I’ll report back tomorrow.
the solar should work OK
make sure that you set you have a solar sensor in the normal davis settings
and then also turn the switch on under control panel, solar setup
(and then also make sure the lat/long is set correct there and in the sun moon rise/set)
WLL setting are now surviving restart. No errors in the Debug info log. I’ve unplugged the USB cable from the VP2 console to make sure the data was coming from WLL. Data received light is flashing. Let it run for over 6K hits. Sounds like everything is working right? Wrong. All data is flatlined from the moment switched to WLL. It was probably that way yesterday, it’s just that the solar graph is the most noticeable. Seeing the flashing data received icon I assumed it was receiving data. I saved the original WDISPLAY.INI and renamed it serial so I could easily go back to it and have named the new .INI file WLL. I’m currently running on the old serial .INI file and it’s working as it should.
I don’t know why the WLL setting survive restart because only Name=Daviswll is saved in the .INI file all other data entry spots are blank. I don’t see an entry for the secret code or the IP address. I’m assuming I can manually add them into the .INI file. Maybe with the weatherlinkdid= filled in it would send the data to WD? But how would it know the IP address? I’m thinking the api key and secret is to retrieve data from the cloud should it need it and not really effect WD getting data from WLL. It’s also still showing the Comport as 3. I’ve attached a pic of the data flatline in the graphics. In the pic it shows the temp as 60, when I switched back to serial it was 63.5. Here are the relevant lines from the WLL .INI file.

looks like there might be confusion between weatherlink.com and WLL
if you have and are wanting to use WLL
then the weatherlink.com settings are only needed for missed history data, and only for if you have your WLL sending data to weatherlink.com and you have a pro account
I do get the crondaviswll program pop up. When it first comes up it’s in error saying can’t find the server and then it starts sending data. I get data received flashing at a faster rate then when I’m in serial mode. It doesn’t stick in WD. Everything flatlines to where it was before I switched to WLL. (i.e. WD showing 60 for temp which changed to 63.5 when WD starts receiving data again from the serial port) Can I add the apikey- data to the .INI file? If so where does it go? In my previous post I copied my .INI file lines from [Weather Station Type] to weatherlinkpassword= directly from the .INI file. Only the [Comport] above it is out of sequence.
are you sure you are entering those wetherlink.com api settings in the WLL settings?
I wil test here
re the crondaviswll IP error, that looks like you have not entered the IP address for the WLL bridge device correctly
what do you have that set as?
i have tested and the weatherlink.com settings that you set in the Davis WLL settings (for history data) are retained OK on WD restart (make sure to exit
WD via the exit menu)
latest mac version
I did a brief run in the WLL mode to get some screen shots. Pretty much did the same thing. I didn’t have a large sample and no solar graph because it’s 3am but got the same result. Nothing is transferred to WD. Temp in the WLL app was going between 47.7 and 47.6. WD was always showing 47.6. Was showing the same for Wind Chill. The .INI file is the same as previous posts, only weather station type name is saved, others not. Does the Crondaviswll window need to stay open? I have the same result with it open or if I close it. I’m back in serial mode and WD is getting data as it should.
Screen Shots
Crondaviswll with error
Crondaviswll then data received icon flashing
Davis WLL setup
data being received
data is arriving to the separate crondaviswll now
so that is good
you can see that in your second screen shot you posted
do not close that
otherwise no data
email me your WDISPLAY.INI settings file
and the raw data files
Daviswlludpdata.txt
Daviswlldata.txt
as it might be that you have no standard WLL setup re sensors /ISS
i put you wrong
those api keys are stored in the wdisplayftp.ini settings file
in the
[DavisWLL]
section
I also see that you have WD set to get missed history data
i,e the switch is on under control panel, data logger
from weatherlink.com using your api keys
see if there is any error under view, debug info
and if there is and the davis history extration window does not close
then that is why then live data does not update
to first get live data working and check on solar data etc
turn the switch off under control panel, data logger
then restart WD
and see if live data works OK etc
Are you saying I need to switch the data Logger off? I don’t see anywhere to select a source so it must be for the VP2pro data logger? I’m leaving for about a half hour, thought I’d just let it run to see what it does. There does seem to be real time wind reading going on.
Looks like turning off the data logger did the trick. I turned it off at Brian’s suggestion via email. Also in the WLL mode the Davis history extration window never came up only the Crondaviswll window. But apparently the data logger switched on interfered. The attached pic shows no flatline. On the solar graph there is a sudden drop off as some clouds rolled in. Nice to see rather than the straight flatline that had been happening and would have showed up right before the sun dropped behind the cloud.
You had indicated that when WD tried to get my WeatherLink data it came back with the error code, {“code”:“403”,“message”:“Access is not authorized for station 106671”} Is this because I don’t have a pro account? I’m using the 15 minute basic account that comes with the WLL unit. I would think that WD should be able to access the account. Is there something I need to do with my WLL account? (other than turn pro)
I was thinking about connecting the VP2pro console to the WeatherLink software that came with the VP2pro station as realtime data backup. You are suppose to be able to import data from the Weatherlink software into WLL even with the basic account. It’s kind of like LinkedIn, they want all the data they can get out of you but want you to pay to see it. I’ve been seeing it on WD since around 2007 I don’t plan on changing. Needless to say I don’t have a LinkedIn pro account.
