Is this a funnel cloud?

Im new here, but i have been lurking around the boards for a month or so. A couple nights ago i took this picture from my balcony. I thought it looked odd, so i took a picture.

Is it a funnel cloud? I have never seen one around here… :?

I aint got a clue but, as i was leaving work sometime in June i managed to take this image
it turned into a small tornado, best part is, we don’t get many of them here in the UK
It actually caused some damaged, i caught it just starting to form

Matth
its what is called scud cloud
which is created where the strong updrafts cool the air (lower air pressure) , resulting in the dew point being reached at a lower atitude
once those updrafts start to spin, then you have a funnel cloud (i.e shaped nicer) (and then a funnel cloud really an embryonic tornado)

Ok, thanks for the information. So, if it were to start spinning, it would have been a funnel cloud, then a tornado had it touched down?

So these Scud clouds are common?

Well, i thought it was pretty cool, i have never seen any around here before. The sun lit up those clouds just before dark the day too, it was really colorful. Maybe i can upload some pics of the sky too a little later tonight.

Thanks for the replies, and Bashy, thats a nice picture you got there, do you work at a car dealership?

Scud clouds are common around here, as Windy said, it has to show rotation to be a funnel cloud.
As a weather spotter for NOAA, it’s a matter of whether or not to call in the report. Rotation yes, no rotation-no call.

Hi Matt

Not quite, I work for a company called Gefco, they specialize in company fleet cars and dealers.
The new cars come to us for pre-delivery, then go to the customer (National Rental car, garages and more)
When the cars come back about 2 to 3 years later we repair any damage on them, then they go out to
garages for the used car market…

My job is a PDR Technician, laymens terms, I take dents out saving the need to repair & paint the vehicle
as long as the paintwork aint damaged, Its a Peugeot and Citroen regional distribution center (RDC) the
Hondas you see there are only there for storage.

Its ok there i spose, we get to see and work on the very latest models and know what there like well before
a dealer does  I also get to work on the cars that you see in the Citroen and Peugot adverts

So, nowt interesting really…
