Not sure exactly what the category should be so this may need to be moved elsewhere more appropriate…
I am having an intermittent issue (about every three days or so) with WD intermittently losing connection with my Davis VP2 Pro. The battery was recently replaced in the VP2 as has the super-cap with no change in symptoms. On the WD screen, I see RED for both the Data Quality and Data Received indicators. Additionally, I notice in the system tray on my windows laptop that there may be two or more of the Real time Clientraw FTP, ver 10.2 processes running with both of them and showing counters incrementing. The contents of each also shows successful uploading of the clientraw.tx and customclientraw.txt files. Reviewing each of those processes shows no errors.
Unfortunately, if I don’t check the status of WD on a regular basis, I can miss when the stopage occurs and I lose live data until I restart the entire process. I am using StartWatch, VirtualVP and VP Live and they seem to run just fine.
I wish there was some way I could get a text message to my phone whenever this problem happens so I can minimize the data loss.
Any thoughts or suggestions as what else I should check would be appreciated.
How are you connected to the VP2 and do you have a console, Envoy or Weather Link Live?
If it’s the console, does this loose connection to the ISS or is it just the connection between the console & WD?
If you have a USB datalogger then first thing to try is changing the USB cable for a good quality one.
Also check the power save settings on your PC/laptop and make sure the USB ports are not set to sleep with inactivity. They should be set to always on.
There is also a setting under Setup > Advanced/Misc Settings > Program > 4th tick box down in teh “General” section (top left) Restart WD instead of reboot, this restarts WD if there’s now COM port data for 10 minutes.
My VP2 is a Wireless version of the Davis VPS Pro with the Vantage Pro2 console. It’s an old model purchased new in 2005 and has worked fine since then other than some issues with the old-style weather vane.
I don’t think it is losing connection between the console and WD since it only seems to happen after I see multiple instances of the Real time Clientraw FTP process. I am running on a HP Windows 10 laptop with an i7 CPU and 16gb of memory. This is dedicated laptop running only WD. All power savings/sleep settings are disabled and have been for years.
I did not have the Restart WD instead of reboot ticked. That is now set and I’ll watch to see if anything changes.
The multiple instances of Realtime Clientraw may be due to a loss of FTP connection. Have you had any issues with your broadband connection recently?
A couple of other things to try with the console;
Make sure the power cable doesn’t run alongside the USB cable.
Put a ferrite choke onto each end of the USB cable.
Both of these eliminate interference from the PSU, which can block the data packets from the console.
