Hi, I am trying to install Weather Display on Raspberry Pi4 (Debian). I downloaded the Weather Display for Linux GUI 32 version Version on 30 June 2017 - 10:19:42, and tried to install it on my RPi4, followed the procedure mentioned at “http://www.weather-display.com/wdlinuxhelp.doc”. Extracted the to home/pi directory, but could not execute the next step at command prompt: ls /dev/ttyS0, getting the message "ls: cannot access ‘/dev/ttyS0’: No such file or directory. To be honest, I don’t have any experience with Linux. Would appreciate your help. Thanks
Welcome!
I know even less about Linux than you (despite my avatar!), but I thought you needed a console version of WD for RPi4?
Is this https://discourse2.weather-watch.com/t/howto-consolewd-for-raspberry-pi-setup-instructions-new-version/67487 any help?
AFAIK Raspbian is basically Debian. . .
@administrator will probably chip in when he gets his laptop back from Yorkshire
Why is my laptop in Yorkshire? Last thing I heard it was near Buxton
The Linux version of WD is compiled for the Intel chipset but the Raspberry Pi uses an ARM CPU. You’ll need to download the Pi consolewd version. There are installation instructions for consolewd in the FAQ section of the forum.
Edit: I see @bitsostring has provided a link to the installation instructions.
My geography is not good. . .
Thanks to bitsostring and administrator, I installed WeatherDisplay as per instruction in the provided link. It works, but have few issues, the Linux version doesn’t seem to support Acurite stations, I have an old Acurite 02032C which I want to link to Weather Display, since this didn’t work, I tried to link my Tempest, though it is connecting and uploading data to Wunderground, there is problem with wind speed, wind direction, rain, UV and solar radiation data. Wind direction seems to be stuck in one direction, wind speed and gust oscillates between just three values. Rain, UV and Solar radiation data are not reported. Any suggestions?
Unfortunately I’ve no experience of using either of those station types. If nobody here uses them it would be worth contacting Brian Hamilton (WD author) by email to see if he can suggest any fixes for you.
