Hi all,
a glorious day in South San Francisco, no wind, low 60’s, sunshine everywhere… 8)
Have had a question posed to me; family around the world click on my site on a daily(?) basis to check out my forecast, and one of them posed a question to me about creating another page that would just load weather undergrounds current conditions and 5-day forecast. Seems possible to me, but I haven’t figured out how W/U creates the info… If it was a gif, duck soup, know how to do that, but it appears W/U composes the screens on the fly. I want a simple page with links that show London, Auckland, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, San Francisco, etc, all on the one page…
Anyone have suggestions or ideas for me to try?
Thanks
Ken
I think the weather flyer could be modified to show what you want. If there are WD stations in all the locations you are interested in you could grab their clientraw file and generate your page to include their data.
Here’s a link to my weather flyer: http://weather.dcrooks.net/wx14.html
Thanks Dan, but that’s a little more complex than I think I need right now. I did dig around w/u’s site and was taken with their little weather stickies… I’m going to look into just stacking some of them on a test page and see how it turns out as a starter…
Ken
That’s a neat idea Ken - then those stickies will link to the appropriate Wunderground page for more details.
Snowman,
I’ll post the page link when I’m done… won’t be today, but maybe this week…
A side question — We (the users, forum members etc) tend to ravitate toward Weather Underground vice Weather.com, Accuweather.com … Any idea why?
Ken
I mentioned the weather flyer as it is just a one page, quick glance at weather conditions. I am very busy this week but if I get some free time I will try to put my ideas together. I think there are lots of folks “watch” weather in different parts of the world for one reason or another. Could be family or their job, but they like to know what the weather is doing in far off places. The nice thing about using the clientraw file is you can pick and choose what details you want to show, and using WD stations for input keeps the project in the family so to speak.
Dan,
That’s my longer term goal… Also, on a shorter term is getinging my clientraw data uploaded every 30 minutes (or it it ‘almost’ realtime? I forget) and getting my station on the US and world clickable map.
Ken
Don’t know, but I like going there because I know they collect and display our personal weather station data.
Myself, I use my local NOAA office page the most. But, now that I have their forecast parsed into my own website page (thanks to CarterLake), I actually use my own site (imagine that!) for my forecast, advisories, and radar.
Well I can help with one of your goals
