Been thinking of adding a solar powered fan to my stevenson shield. I have several 12V computer fans (but no specs for) so I picked up a 12V, 1.5W solar panel on sale that’s intended to sit on the car dashboard and trickle charge the battery through the cigarette lighter. Doesn’t work :x It has enough power to move the fan if I manually start it but not enough to actually start it.
So still looking for a cheap inexpensive way, either a lower current fan or higher current solar panel.
Checking the assortment of fans at Frys Electronics I found some case fans with fluid bearings that, according to the package, draw 1/10 the power of the others. Bought one and hooked it up and sure enough as soon as the sun hits the solar panel the fan starts. So I mounted everything up outside. So far the late AM/early PM spike I had been seeing on CWOP is GONE. I think I have a winner! WhooHoo!
