I am pretty impressed with the Ecowitt/Fine Offset devices

I’ve had a few of the less expensive stations over the years, but I wasn’t really involved in the hobby for probably the last15 years. I’ve had stations from LaCrosse, Oregon Scientific, Acurite, and now Ecowitt.

I bought the Wittboy with the GW2000, then added the WH40,WH51 and the
WH75. Each extra sensor was picked up instantly and was super easy to install. Once the barometer was dialed in, it hasn’t strayed at all. It’s only been a month, so I’ll keep an eye on it, but I’m happy with all of it so far. I love the modular design!

The haptic rain gauge still needs some work and isn’t super accurate yet, but I feel like it will continue to get better.

I just need to add a pond sensor to make sure my rice fish stay alive over the long upstate NY winter, but I think that’s the last sensor I need.

Right now, I consider myself an Ecowitt fan boy and I think you’d be hard pressed to get a better station AT THAT PRICE POINT.

Hi
Glad you like the Ecowitt sensors etc.
I was a Davis weather station then went over to Ecowitt, with a Wittboy and now lots of other sensors, and yes very impressed, but im sure that there are lots of Davis weather station fans on the forum as well.

I’ve never had a Davis, but I’d love to someday. The cost between the two brands is pretty high though. I am about $350 in and that includes a lightning detector, a second rain gauge, and a soil moisture sensor as well as the standard sensors and gauges.

I think Davis stuff is high quality, it’s just a little more out of my price range.

After 29 years of Davis Stations, I made the switch in January to a WS-5000. No issue so far, except I’m going to put the outdoor temp sensor in an old Davis VP2 FARS I have. Temp fluctuations in the sunshine sometime with the Ambient temp sensor.

In my opinion these haptic sensors are worthless to measure rainfall. If rainfall amounts are important you’re much better off with a tipping style sensor or the catch basin type manual gauge. I doubt you will ever get decent readings from the sensor.
