How to calibrate rain guage?

Hello,

How does one go about calibrating, ensureing that a rain guage is reading correctly. Yesterday the rain guage said we had just over .5" of rain, but a bucket had about a good 1" or so… hummm

Hi JohnnyBpy,

Can you compare with stations in the neighbourhood?

Has the bucket the same surface?

I guess there are threads about this already, but if you poor (very gently) a measured amount of water in your gauge, you must be able to see that amount on your console …

(Did a quick search: http://discourse.weather-watch.com/t/6717.)

What brand ?
For example: Davis Vantage tipping bucket
544ml of water poured into our rain collector will yield 1 inch or 25.4mm of rain. Correlating this, a volume of water equal to 4.28ml of water would equal .2mm.
Also is this a WD question ?
