Had a major failure with my pc (Acer Revo One (win 8.1), which required a complete reinstall, I am now struggling to install the usb-serial drivers for the davis usb data logger, been trying to run CP210x_VCP_Windows, seems to be going through the motions but nothing happens no com ports appear, I installed Weatherlink as well, just wondering if anthing else needs to be installed to get it to run, pulling hair out at the moment not that there is much to get hold of #-o
I have just been through the same scenario of replacement PC - Took me a few minutes to discover the Com port had changed from 4 to 3 - you could check that
I’d be happy just to have a com port, thats the problem
I see you have changed the subject to solved but you have not added what the solution was?
Win 8.1 on Acer revo One WD revsion 281
Well that will teach me, just when I thought it was working,
The USB-Serial port appears to be working but WeatherDisplay.exe will not download data from logger
This is the strange bit, WeatherLink works fine in administrator mode which is made me think the problem does not lie with the USB software bit stumped now
You didn’t set USBExpress mode by chance?
No definately stayed away from that thanks, had some sucess with changing com port to 1 instead of 3 so will be monitoring over the next few days, with it being a new windows 8.1 installation and having loads of updates not sure if it was something windows was doing
Go into device manager and look under “Ports (COM & LPT)” to see which COM port was assigned to the USB-Serial adapter. The com port can even change based on which USB port it is plugged into.
Windows 8.1 can be touchy about USB/serial adapters.
