Help: Power outage caused WD to loose all settings

This is the second time in within five days that we’ve had a brief power outage due to a thunderstorm and when i re-boot my pc, WD starts but the program screen is blank and no data is being downloaded. The first time this happened, i simply copied the “WDISPLAY.INI” file from the folder “databackup” and pasted it into the main Weather Display program folder, restarted Weather Display and everything worked fine. Today, another thunderstorm, another power outage, and when i re-boot my pc, another blank program screen and no data being downloaded. I tried the same process i did the other day but this time it’s not resolving the issue. I’m still getting the blank program screen and no data being downloaded. I am running the current version of WD on Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit pc.

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

Make sure you followed THIS FAQ and it should bring everything back. If it doesn’t work using the WDISPLAY.INI file from this month then try last months and see if that works.

If you’ve had this twice now then maybe it’s time to save up for UPS for your PC.

Your FAQ is what i followed the first time it happened a few days ago and it worked fine. I was already planning on getting a UPS after the last time the power went out but wasn’t expecting to have another power outage so soon. Is there anything else you can think of that might help? I would do a complete uninstall and re-install but don’t want to loose all the data from the year.

Thanks again,

Tucker

Tucker,

Have you searched your computer for any other wdisply.ini files possibly from an earlier backup?

-Bob

Thanks for the suggestion Bob. That’s actually the next thing I tried after the using the most recent backup file. I’m at a loss unfortunately. It’s going on 36 hours since it happened and I don’t know of any other solutions. I guess I’m just going to have to do a complete uninstall and then re-install. I’m going to have to research the best way to re-input my data from the beginning of the year till now since I’ve never had to do that before.

Thanks again for the assist.

Tucker

Tucker,

Do you have any zip file backups? If so maybe take a look in those and see if any have a wdisplay.ini backup you can try.

Also just to be sure did you reboot your machine and try the backup .ini file after rebooting?

-Bob

You shouldn’t need to uninstall, can you not just input the settings again?
