The sub-category drop down always has ‘no subcategories’ as the first entry. It means you don’t want to select any sub-category.
So, according to the new topic button you are not allowed to create a topic in the category itself, but if you go to sub-categories and select ‘no sub-categories’ you can?
You may have identified a bug. I will need to log in with an unprivileged account to test it because this account can create posts anywhere.
I’m not seeing that, so perhaps I’m not doing the same as you. Here’s what I did…
That was using an unprivileged (level 1) account.
Edit: It was actually a level 2 account that I tested it with. I’ve also tested it with a level 3 account (same level as you) and I still can’t get New Topic to be enabled with ‘no sub-category’ selected.
Actually I didn’t select ‘no subcategories’ at all, I just couldn’t work out what it meant. Hence my question. And it seems a bit superfluous if you can’t post at all without selecting a sub-category
No subcategories is about reading rather than posting. If you just want to read posts related to weather hardware in general you could select category Hardware and no sub-categories to display all messages in the Hardware category. Alternatively you could select Hardware category and one of the sub-categories to just display posts from that sub-category.
WIth the way this forum is configured no sub-categories isn’t really useful, but I guess it’s there by default because other people might be using the forum in different ways where it does make sense.
Ahhh. . . my apologies.
