GRLevel3 info

I took the leap got GRLevel3 and AllisonHouse feed. I know this isn’t the support forum for that but it’s is hard to find some info on the different sites and forums even with search. So a couple of questions if you please…

When starting GRL3 is there a way to save the map position and zoom level?
What is the meaning of Zoom Settings in the Animation Setting tab? ‘Number of steps’ and ‘Amount’

I tried the AutoIt3 script for starting the program and enabling Web Publishing but all it does is open the ftp box and puts ‘ss’ in the Server box. This causes my keyboard to lock up to the point I have to reboot the whole computer. I find not being able to set web publishing start as a default to be very annoying.

I’m asking here because this just seems to be a much friendlier place. Not that the GRLevelX forums are hateful or anything just doesn’t have the friendly feel as here.

hello dave…

as for the zoom level of GR3…Whatever zoom level you leave it set at, while viewing/zooming on your own screen…will be the zoom level the image uploads at.

and as far as FTP’ing the images to your site…that is easily done by going to the Web Publishing option in GR3 Itself…just make sure you fill out all the info in the boxes, and your server info.

then once you have the address for image, it should be displaying on your server/site. the path to the image should be something like mine:

http://www.gateway2capecod.com/GR3/kbox_br1_0.jpg

depending upon what you named the folder on your server for the gr3 images to go to…in my case I use “GR3”

Hopefully this may help you out…Chris

I’ve got it ftping and have a test page here. Some of the setting/boxes for info don’t make any sense to me. Like the ones in the animation settings and I’d like it to start in zoom position I have it set at. Right now it zooms all the way out when you restart the program. And it won’t hold the web publishing start which seems to be a common request/complaint on the forum.

The autoit deals with the publishing quite well. As for zoom, if the workstation is restarted when I’m not around (very rare), then I just manually go in and change it.

I normally use the default view anyway, but if it starts getting interesting I just adjust it as needed using remote access from just about anywhere I am located to make the change. This is on a dedicated workstation with WD and other weather stuff on it.

I changed my web page recently to show three different views with 47 screen loops for BR1, CR248 and ET…

Just found out why my autoit didn’t work. I used the script from GRLevelX forum but didn’t want to run autoit on the weather computer so I compiled it on my laptop and forgot that the directory structure wasn’t the same so had the file path wrong. Edited it then recompiled and it is now working fine. Just have to add it to StartWatch now.

I can do everything remotely but is a hassle. I am far from a programmer but when every other piece of software can maintain default settings seems like others could also. Not bad mouthing the program because it is great and much nicer than NWS. Guess Brian spoiled us all.

So no one knows about the Zoom Settings in the Animation Setting tab? ‘Number of steps’ and ‘Amount’.

hello dave…

I believe I just left my Animations settings boxes at their default setting’s…which are:

Number of steps= 1
Amount= 2.000
Number of volumes= 20

Because you are using the “<?php include_once("GR3-radar-inc.php"); ?>” on your gr3 page…it gives the 10 step loop/animation you have available on the top part of your page, as does mine, and thge animation setting’s within GRLEVEL3 itself dont matter when it is set up this way, as far as I know.

so everything you have set as is now…should be all set.

on another note…I just looked at your grlevel3 and that background map you are using looks really strange with the greyish color to it. perhaps a different background map with a better color would be better., but that is up to your decision and just my opinion.

click link below to see example of how your Location would look with the backgroundmap I am currently using…

more background maps for GRLEVEL3 can be seen/downloaded from here:

These settings adjust how fast and how smooth zooming in and out works in GR3.
No, you can’t open the program to a set zoom level.

I never really looked at it before… I played with it last night, but it is not something I could try to program for my sites grlevel3.

Thanks, Chris.

I’ve been playing with different backgrounds and colors and haven’t hit on one that I like but the dark background does look better. Of course you opinion counts. I appreciate the feed back.

BTW, what background is that?

–Dave

Played with it some last night and came to the conclusion you have described. Had to make some pretty big changes to see what was happening. Thanks for confirming.

I found a script for AutoIT to automate the web publishing on the GRLevelX forum. Got that compiled and working on my weather machine. I’m wondering if it will mimic a mouse scroll wheel. That may work if that motion is supported??

–Dave

To automate the zoom in AutoIt, I recorded the mouse click on the Zoom In symbol in the toolbar. I then recorded the positioning of the map using MouseDown - MouseMove - MouseUp. Seems to work alright.

Hello dave…

sorry for taking awhile to get back to you on what map I am currently using that you asked about.

It is named the “National Enhanced” map and is the ninth one down on this page:

http://www.grlevelxstuff.com/index.php?categoryid=14&p13_sectionid=9

you need to be logged in to download from this page, otherwise it will keep looping you back to the downloads section page each time you try to download a background map or any other downloads…if you are not logged in.

once the file is download as a zip file to your PC…My folder was auto named ET-NE…But this map is a national one and covers your area also. make sure you enter correct Latitude and longitude settings when switching to this map from whatever map you currently have in use.

One other thing I also want to mention to you, and anyone else that has/use’s GRLEVEL3 and is using the Carterlake ajax/php templates. although by default the grlevel3 images are set to upload at 512 by 512 size (width and height)…I changed mine to upload to a slightly bigger size of 620 by 620 and think it looks better at this size/width dimensions. The changes are simply made in the web publishing section of grlevel3 and also the carterlake ajax/php template files that correspond to what size your grlevel3 image will be. I think the only file in the templates that needed editing from 512 by 512 is in the 'settings.php" file.

give it a try and see what you think…just makes it slightly larger for your viewers to see more clearly and at a better size range overall in my opinion. also fits on either the carterlake ajax/php templates wide.css or narrow.css layout without any problems that I know of.

if ever resizing your grlevel3 image to another size…just keep the width and height measurments the same/equal and it looks best this way, …instead of something such as 640 by 480 or 512 by 480 etc. etc.

I have also, along with other’s and their help…added to my Grlevel3 image…the current Timestamp.php, …The current Temperature’s from Metar stations nearby, and a customized “made with Xara Extreme” Watermark to the top left of my image.
