Graphics...

For fun, recreation and relaxation, I dabble in graphics creation, using a tool called Xara X. It is a Vector graphics package that allows me to recreate existing logos and graphics and create new graphics which can then be resized and generated into the various different types of image types, gif, jpg, png etc…

Recently, I made a couple recreated logos for some weather related packages, NOAA, CWOP, Davis… etc…

If you are stuck with getting a graphic to fit your weather page just right, give me a shout and if I have time, I will create one for you.

For the most part, these are done for free. If you need some graphics done and I have time, Let me know and I will generate them for you, or you can use any of the graphics that are already there if you can use them.

Like many of you, I normally have a number of pokers in the fire at the same time, so these are done when I have time.

These are wonderful - thanks very much

That CWOP logo has been in dire need of an update.

Good job.

I notice that the graphics are in groups. Are we able to download and use single graphics? I would like to use a ‘weather-display’ one to provide a link on my web-page.

I’d just like to compliment krelvinaz on his graphics. They are stunningly good, light years better than anything I’ve ever managed to produce, and produced incredibly quickly.

One thing that has crossed my mind is what a set of krelvinaz forecast icons for WD would look like

Actually, I started looking into that last night.

Checking around however… I see that there are already a lot of icons available…

I’ve seen that site before, but I’m wary of using any of the icon sets because of potential copyright problems. I wouldn’t like various well known international newspapers/TV stations/organisations chasing me for stealing their icons!

There are a few set of specific WD icons around, but your graphics seem to have a certain ‘something’ about them that’s missing in the other sets. I’m not a graphical type of person, so it’s difficult for me to explain quite what I mean.

Part of it is that some of the graphic sets have (for example) great sun icons, but their rain/cloud icons are a bit indistinct. Other have good rain icons but their sunset icon looks like a serious chemical spillage! Others have reasonable images, but have a border round them that doesn’t wuite match my site colour scheme. I think this may be due to people borrowing bits of graphics that sort of fit from a lot of locations and then trying to make them fit the WD graphics requirements.

A set of designed from scratch icons for WD might work better.

That’s just the ramblings of a tired brain…feel free to ignore all this! And please note, I’m not knocking anyone’s WD icon set. Anyone who has created a set has my admiration, because they’ve done something I’d never succeed in doing!

This is something that I will look into this weekend.

One thing was I couldn’t find the location of the current icons being used by WD. They didn’t seem to be in the directories where the program is loaded.

Might have just missed them.

Just farting around waiting for a couple servers to reload…
and I caught myself playing again…

Top left is for real HEAT days like we have in AZ…

What do they call it when you think it feels like Friday… but it is only Wed.

These are really brilliant !!!

Hi Guys,

has anyone successfully replaced their icon set yet ?

By that I mean COMPLETELY replaced it, and got it to work ?

I’ve changed every icon visible in the WD ‘input daily weather’ and am still getting some of the old icons showing. Partly Cloudy seems to be one, but I read on another forum area that this had been fixed …

I’m using X,Y orZ, can’t remember which, but it’s this week’s flavour.

Also - what about replacing the moon phase images, as they’re naff - is this possible ?

Regards, B.

is it just partly cloudy?
i did find out a problem with respect to a metar icon…
the problem is i have doubled up a bit on the partly cloudy and dry icon within wd …

I think that’s the one I had troubles with. I spent ages one night trying to get WD to change. Do you think its fixed in the latest version Brian?

Is there a way to “bulk” change the whole set in one go?

Brian,

it’s definately Partly Cloudy, and maybe another one - can’t remember which, sorry.

Also it definately effects the metar summary too.

Regards.

I’ve had some more time to play… I’m working on both ICON’s that could be used in WD as well a new set for WDL

Below is an almost completed set for WD. Still missing are the colder versions with snow et al…

See if you can figure out, haze… and fog Icons…

Not sure if there should be non-full moon versions of them though.

These are uncut, as a single sheet of images. They would be cut out and provided in a Zip file.

I note the International symbol for fog is 3 horizontal bars… I would never have figured it out until after I drove into the tree.

Very nice - so clean
It would be great to have the option to use your icons. But…I would need specific instructions on how to implement them - don’t want to break anything!

Download them into a folder inside the WD folder… mine is called “myicons”.

Open WD and at the top… select “input daily weather”

Double click on each icon to replace it with the file replacement of each icon.

Weather Display - Exclusive Weather Icons.

Snow image…

Okay some are still missing and I will update as I get them in…

Below is a URL for a ZIP file that contains the images cut up and ready to rip.

Note: These are originally created images designed for use with Weather Display. One of my contributions to what I think is a great program. They are available for FREE. There are both Day and Night Versions of Icons.

If a graphics area opens up, I will repost them there.

Hi
great stuff!
now i just need to fix that partly cloudy icon issue
