Graphics card fan

Hi

My fan on mu Radeon X550 is about to give up the ghost, its intermittently growling
at me and really wants to retire. I have refurbed it a few times now by taking it off
the card and cleaning it up with WD40, it lasts a few months then needs doing again
Well, the comp is on 24/7 so it aint too bad i suppose…

Anyway, I have search a few places on the net but cannot find a replacement fan for
it, preferably someone who takes paypal as well as the funding is in there…

Can anyone advise please, preferably somewhere in the UK as well?

A while ago I bought a fan-less cooler for my AGP card from an ebay user called mobley4, it is running very sucessfully on my almost silent WD PC. Anyway he sells a lot of coolers on ebay so take a look and see if he has anything suitable.

Stuart

Thanks Stuart, I have sent the guy an email as i aint got a clue what i need
without ripping the card out again, will see what he says, thanks again

Well this one seems to fit the X550 series, its the one I have on my AGP card (not an X550) so it lookslike he does have some.

Stuart

I was hoping for the fan type as this should be much cheaper (at least half) I didnt want to go
to much as the funding is a bit sparce what with losing my job an’ all, but, that price aint too
bad i suppose (just under

Usually a 8mm brushless fan will do the job, personally i would like to use watercooling (competely silent and very effective) maybe when i have a bit of spare cash.

WD 40 is a poor lubricant.

I prefer TriFlow myself or some other fast-drying teflon lube…

To be honest I wouldnt of lubricated the fan to begin with, just changed the fan or card. AGP cards are cheap to come by in comparison to a new cooler. I have a Radeon 9700 pro 2 128 meg needing a new fan, sitting in a box not doing anything & a PNY FX5600 XT 256 meg in full working condition in a antistatic bag. Sparkle FX5600 128 meg sold last night on ebay for

I bought this card for the reason it could handle 2 monitors and TV out
New x550 256mb cards on ebay are

Radeon X1650 pro from Dabs.com is

It looks like a really nice card m8 and everything i need but, i just cant stretch to that
at present due to loosing my job a month back, hence a replacement fan was the best
option for me…

I really appreciated you trying to find another option for me, but i could not justify
a new card at present :frowning:

I understand how you feel on the job front. I found a website for cooling fans & the specific page for VGA coolers. I reckon you could get away with a passive cooler on that card of yours.

Hi bashy,

Maplins sell lots of fans including VGA cooler fans (p67 in their latest catalogue if you have one)…Depending on the size of your existing fan, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they had something that you could use…always try and get the ball bearing type, as opposed to the sleeve bearing, as they last far longer…

Cheers guys, i will have a good browse at them, i didnt even think about Maplin #-o

Well, i know this is an old thread but i thought i would mention that
in the end i bought a new card, Its a Radeon X1650 512mb, ok so
1 year (nearly) on from buying the card and guess what…?

Yep your right, the fan has given up :x

Looks like they last about a year, i would say just over 11 months :frowning:
Now i got to waste more money on a new card as its easier than trying
to find a fan that fits (screws lining up)

Bashy you could have a look around to see if you can find a fanless solution for your card. I run an AGP card in my WD PC witha b***y great heatsink on it and no fan, works perfectly and its silent too (which is why I did it for my WD PC). However my point here is that its likely IF you can find a fanless solution it may be cheaper than a new card.

Stuart

Hi Stuart, that is a good idea, but if i remember correctly the heatsink that
that houses the fan is permanent, I would need to check to make sure though

Thanks for the idea
