What’s happening:
http://www.luvretirement.com/WeatherDisplay.htm NOT updating
http://www.luvretirement.com/indexlive.html IS updating
ftpupd.exe is in the tray twice, can’t update, both go away and don’t try anymore
Wunderground IS updating

I can’t find what’s going on but I would appreciate it if someone would take the time to help me with this.

you mentioned in another thread that you had limit the number of failed ftp attempts set

also you need to post here the ftplogfull.txt file

Log @ 2:30PM CDT. If you need the other one I’ll break it down as it’s too big to send @ one time

ftplogfull.txt (7.17 KB)

230 Login successful. changing directory to /data/observations/metar/decoded/ CWD /data/observations/metar/decoded/ 250 Directory successfully changed. Next file FTP metar station download Downloadding to c:\Program Files\wdisplay\metar\KSHV.met PORT 192,168,1,101,15,53 500 Unknown command. 141: 500 Unknown command. QUIT

Appears that the ftp server doesn’t like the command it was sent. I guess it was the PORT command as I don’t see anything else. I didn’t spot anything in the rest of the log.

also:
LAZ001.txt
LAZ001

it looks like you have a extra ftp noaa download file set that is not correct
try fixing that too

That was setup a while ago for Server 2 but it was turned off. It also is not present in the webfiles folder. How would that still be in the upload stream? I deleted the reference to it. Hope that works.

Thanks.

Dan, I don’t think I have any control over the port. Right?

Still have 2 ftpupd.exe icons in system tray. Frist there’s one, then 2, then 1 then none.

Do you have mutiple processes in Task Manager? I have seen that sys tray icons sometimes hang on after the program itself has closed, and only go away when moused over.

Yep, multiple processes.

thats one of the problems

and so the ftp program eventualy times out

according to your over all time out setting

if you could use a web site host that allowed more connections that would help the situation

Brian,
I’m sure you already know that I don’t want to change hosts. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get flamed by some for being uncooperative so… Do you have a solution? Seriously, can you please try to find out why there is a problem with this upload program?

I’ve just seen another new post about the same problem. If the older version of ftpupd.exe will work with 10.37c bld 6 is there a way it could be posted for download?

I’m not flaming you, but my take on this is that most of the initial reasons in the logs for FTP sessions starting to fail appear to be non-WD, i.e. host side issues, dead ftp sessions don’t clear instantly so then the next instance hits your 2 session ftp limit and that one craps out too, and then you are stuck in a vicious circle.

I agree, it’s a hosting issue not a WD issue.

So if it’s a hosting issue why has it just begun to happen? I’ve been running WD since mid-December with no problems (mostly) and just within the last however many days since I posted the first message in the thread I’ve been getting doubled update attempts. I’ve had the same host since 2005 and have not had a problem with uploading to them at any time except now.

Didn’t you have a thread a little while ago involving the “Too many connections” problem?

There’s a world of difference between normal updating of a website (which is what I assume you were doing for the last 2 years), and banging it with two concurrent ftp sessions 24 by 7.

You could certainly try an older ftpupd, but my perception is that you have been having some level of ftp issues all along.

Found it! Bob’s previous version archive details are in this post

Thank you for the referenced file. I’ll keep it close at hand for any future problems.

OK, I give up…let’s stop this thread. I found a very old version of WD I had saved, will install it tomorrow and it should work nicely. Thanks to all who helped and especially to whomever posted at one time to save your old versions of WD because they might come in handy.

i dont have this problem myself
i wonder if its because i stopped compressing the ftpupd.exe file (because being compressed its more prone to causing a virus alert)
note, you can use a ftp version from an older version of wd with the current weatherd.exe version
