Ftp too many connections

Uploading stopped yesterday with an error message 421 from the server saying too many connections from my computer. The ISP suggests setting FTP uploads in my FTP client to 1. Also, please check the same after rebooting the router or trying from a different email client.

I haven’t a clue what they mean and is this something I do from Weather Display Control Panel?

I’m using v 10.37s145

I had something similar some years ago, turned out my website host only allowed a set number of ftp connections from the same ip, if over got to many connections error, i had to in the end get a block of ip’s from my broadband supplier and set pc,s to use different ip using router settings.

Lots of tech ftp to website, only happened if some connections didn’t close and were left open

Not very techie minded , hope this helps

This is a problem when using shared hosting, it’s one of the reasons I decided to use a dedicated server, it does me about £25 a month but its worth it.

For several years my ISP worked great and then all of a sudden about 50% of my ftp’s weren’t being uploaded. I worked with their tech support and they couldn’t figure it out. They said it had to be on my end yet I hadn’t changed anything and I have a fast (1 Gbps) connection that allows unlimited throughput. I even stopped all ftp’s except one file, clientraw.txt from Weather Display, and it too had a 50% success rate. In August 2021, I decided to try hosting my website on a Synology NAS that I had been using for local backup. It worked but it was too slow, so I purchased a Synology DiskStation DS220+ ($300 USD) and added two 3TB hard drives ($50 USD each) in December 2021 and it works great. No more ftp issues and lots of storage space. It’s a big up-front cost but there are no more monthly recurring costs, so you need to determine the cost-benefit of running your own server. My ISP was charging $120 USD per year when I cancelled, so it will take just over 3 years for me to recoup the cost savings from my purchase. Assuming my NAS and hard drives last beyond three years, my website hosting will be free until I need to replace hardware. If, like MartinWX says, a dedicated ISP is £25 per month, then the server would pay for itself in 16 months. And, setting up a website on a Synology NAS is easy.

More on this. I have altered ISP settings in Filezilla but this still does not work. The issue might be with Weather Display’s own ftpupd.exe program.

Any ideas?

In task manager how many instants of clientrawrealtimeftp and ftpup are running
Have you tried rebooting the computer also the router
As the clientraw upload seams to be still working and they both use the same ftp settings the ftpup should work
Check your firewall is not blocking the ftpup program
Is the error 421 coming from the ISP or you hosts server

Thanks for taking the trouble to ask these.

In task manager how many instants of clientrawrealtimeftp and ftpup are running - I don’t see ftpupd on task manager
Have you tried rebooting the computer also the router - Yes - the problem goes away for a while when I reboot the router.
As the clientraw upload seams to be still working and they both use the same ftp settings the ftpup should work - I agree
Check your firewall is not blocking the ftpup program - Clientraw works from the same PC but Norton might be the issue
Is the error 421 coming from the ISP or you hosts server - From the host server

Update: seems to have ‘sorted itself’.

The only changes I made were to tick the ‘rename file’ box and ‘always disconnect’ box on the main ftp tab in control centre.

Thanks for helping with my thought processes. I concluded that these changes were necessary because Clientraw still worked and it had been set to similar settings to the solution.

I usually don’t have that problem, but when I do, I log into cpanel and disconnect a few ftp connections.
