Hi Chris,
Did you get emails from VentraIP with ftp info.
Did you try their online help they are good.
Sorry I do not use WeatherDisplay so unsure how the ftp setup works.
P.S. Sent you a PM.
Kind Regards,
Tony

Yup. They are very helpful.

What they responded with:

*Hey Chris, thanks for getting that through to us. *

*Thankfully, a lot of these options we are familiar with, and most of them are more so preferences. *

*The only option I can see that needs to be enabled is in the bottom right, under SSL. *
*There’s a check box that is labelled “Explicit”, which I would recommend enabling. *

*The other issue that may be present, which will depend on this program specifically (Or the operating system), is the TLS version this program is capable of. *
*Older programs and operating systems (Like Windows 7 and earlier) don’t have TLS 1.2 enabled or as an option at all. *

*We require TLS 1.2, which some older programs are only compatible with TLS 1.0 or 1.1. If this is the case, usually a message about “weak cyphers” will show up. *

*In these cases, it may be possible to use SFTP, however, this will require adding your IP to the SSH Access area here: *
*VIPcontrol *

*Thankfully, the Username and Password are the same, but the Port will be 2683. *
To allow this connection within the application, I believe you just need to update the Port and enable the SFTP option.

I’ve chosen the explicit. It’s working sort of,.The real-time ftp is working, just not the others. Please see attached.

Unfortunately it look like the realtime has stopped as well

Yup. Trying to figure it out…

Are you still using ‘old’ FTP and not FTPS or SFTP? My reading of the comms you’ve had from the server and the support people is that:

  1. Old FTP is no longer allowed. This is the unencrypted version where your username/password are sent as cleartext.

  2. If you’re using FTPS then the software (WD) must be capable of using TLS v1.2 or TLS v1.3. I don’t know if WD supports these versions of TLS…it may do but it’s not something I use so I can’t be sure.

  3. If you can use SFTP, effectively FTP over a SSH pipe, then that will work. I’m sure there are examples on the forum of how to use SFTP with WD (a cURL option somewhere?)

Many thanks. I’ll keep trying

looks like you updating correctly now Chris.

Hi All
With the help of Ken and VentraIP we got it working! For those who may come across the same problem, here is the solution.

  1. Login into your Vipcontrol Dashboard
  2. Click on cPanel Hosting
  3. Click on manage
  4. On the left menu, choose SSH Access under Configuration
  5. Click on Add IP Address under SSH Access
  6. You will see some options, but choose your IP address, yours will be listed, choose that.
  7. Go to WD>Control Panel>FTP & Connection MTAR/NOAA
  8. Enter your FTP connection settings. Note, only put in public_html. No slashes. Unless different on your server.
  9. Change FTP Port to 2683
  10. Over on the far right, only check Use SFTP (SSH)
  11. Make Sure Main Internet Switch is on.
  12. Press save and Ok.
    All should be well.
