Very very few do this and I actually had to do a LOT of searching to even find any info on how to do this. I did find the following on the Foscam web site that might be useful.
Yep, know all about it. I spent the better part of two hours with the author and we finally agreed that the server was not running any PHP or curl software to enable your ability to secure your feed info. So, is it a problem? Yeah, I guess it could be depending how much a person is willing to commandeer your camera in addition to how secure you want your source data to be.
For anyone else who is following this thread, the data on the link that Hank has provided is excellent information and it does work. I have seen my camera on the authors server that runs PHP and/or Curl. Just make sure the server you are operating on is also running the same.
I will make one additional comment on the HD.264 Foscams. They really have a nice image and it is relatively easy to set up on your wireless network. The price is right too!
qsl.net does have php installed as it’s being used on this page. Best bet would be to ask the host how to use it. Might have to use something like .php4 or .php5 as a page extension.
That is probably a paid subscription for that service. See Scotts disclaimer.
We will create an e-mail forwarding address as explained above, plus we will create a website in the format of Error 404 - Page Cannot Be Found. You will be given a username and password so you can use FTP software to upload your HTML web pages and other files – no PHP or other scripting languages and/or database access is available. If you require PHP, MySQL Databases, etc., we suggest applying for hosting service at QTH.com. If you sign-up for a Website account, you will automatically receive an email forwarding address. If you really do not want an email forwarding address, you can use our Self-Help System to disable it
Do you have a reference as to what threat is being thwarted? The html in the foscam is vulnerable? The “server” is in the foscam so I can’t figure out why you are trying to encrypt html on another server. :?
Sounds like a bunch of selling hype to me. It sounds like Foscam needs to secure there http server in the webcam if this is such a big deal. Why advertise and support a 3rd party on their website? Especially one that seems to point out a vulnerability in their product. As I was reading I kept thinking if this guy can sell it for $10 then how hard would it be for Foscam to build it into the firmware? I think they are just trying to scare you into spending more money.
